3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Noctilucus (97) - All over Belgium, BELGIUM - JUN 28, 2012
Extreme gusher, which became clear as soon as I opened the bottle yet I still lost quite a bit while the foam kept rising for 2 minutes, filling pretty much 80% of the bottle… and it’s been like that for all the bottles I had so far, even from different batches so be warned!
Black brew with beige/brown foam.
The nose is strongly sweet caramel and all the characteristics of a stout; some sourness as well as a roasted yet not burnt smell.
Bitter, sour and roasted taste, bordering on earthy and smok; no sweetness at all; pretty strong taste for just a 5.5% beer. The aftertaste is mostly roasted, almost burnt, a tad bitter and smoked. Not as strong as the taste since the sourness doesn’t remain; nonetheless it’s a long lasting aftertaste that at times has almost a hint of sweetness which never materializes. There seems to be little carbonation though it may be masked by the initial taste.
For me, this is a solid stout with a much stronger taste than I would have expected of a 5.5% one, good stuff!
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 gEUS (587) - Linden, BELGIUM - MAY 21, 2012
330 ml bottle of which only half was left after having removed the cap... Too much fermented - pours deep reddish brown with huge, huge head... persisting throughout the whole time. Nose of choclate and roasted malts. Medium body but all the rest (palate, flavours...) are unnoticable due to way-over-the-edge carbonation.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 drowland (4998) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - APR 14, 2012
4/14/12. 11.2oz bottle. Black pour, maybe more of a really dark brown under the light, with an enormous, billowing, fluffy tan head that lasts forever and laces plenty. Roasted malts and chocolate on the aroma along with something that definitely reminds me of cooked corn. Roasted malts and chocolate on the flavor as well with a big metallic tinge and a hint of tartness. Very thin and light bodied with a ton of carbonation. Eh.

Gedronken met Benzai en dutchdrebus, zwart van kleur dus standaard een 3 voor kleur, ruikt en smaakt naar koffie, beetje waterig en bitter.

33cl bottle shared with Dutchdrebus and Ansjelaah. Very dark brown color with a slight red glare coming through. Full dense off-white to beige head. Smell malts, sweetness, yeast. Taste malts, hints of caramel, hints of fruitpeel-bitter. High, fizzy carbonation, low to medium body.

Bottle thx to benzai. Very dark brown to black colour full off-white head. Smells sweet, some hoppyness, slightly roasty and some chocolate. Tastes very hoppy, coffee, chocolate. Too much carbo for me, thin to medium body.

I’ve tasted this beer a year ago and found my review on a sheet of a paper, here’s what was written on it; "Feels like you’re tasting the real thing, big roasted coffee after taste, awesome !"
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 PorterPounder (4612) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - APR 7, 2012
Tallahassee, Fl. - Fermentation Market - 330 ml bottle. Deep dark black pour with a sticky, thick mocha colored head. Aroma has some nice bittersweeet chocolate notes, some newly turned moist black dirt. Flavor is pleasant and mild with some light baker’s chocolate, some roasty notes, a bit of black unsweetened coffee. Mouthfeel has a nice chalkiness to it. Solid stout.
