33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Bottle almost exploded upon opening, leaving just enough to sample the beer. Unclear reddish brown colour, creamy off white to beige head. Thick aroma of caramel, malts, molasses, anise, a hint of mint. Flavour is sweet, malty, caramel/toffee/fudge, some yeast, some subdued sour spiciness. Light bitter finish. Bottle Deep brown to black, clear body. Creamy/fizzy, small head that diminishes fastly. Aroma of mint chocolate ("after eight"), molasses, caramel, medicine, ... bit weird. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour which is also quite medicinal but nice.

Bottle: Unclear, chestnut-amber coloured, small persistent beige layer; sourish-woody nose with a distinctive fruitiness and some liquorice underneath; sourish-sweetish flavour, relatively light bodied; lactic acid detectable in the woody and fruity finish. Pleasant, but nothing special.........

330ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)
Rich reddy brown, small tight beige head. Zingy, but also a bit dusty, hoppy aroma. Crisp carbonation, but still a smooth palate. Rich malty body, heading towards dry ashiness, and some salty mature camembert too. Hops quite prominent, and leave a nice tingly finish. Good one, all the way to the end of the glass.

A truly ugly beer to look at. I dont think Ive ever given a one for appearance before. Murky, faecal, reddish brown with a scummy saliva like beige head. Initial impression of the aroma was herby and spicy perhaps even with a little mint. Then a sweet, leathery, yeasty maltiness developed. The taste has that sweet malt, but some rather less attractive flavours as well, a sort of chalky, peppery, sour aspirin or indigestion tablet taste that I couldnt quite identify. Some background dryness. I really didnt like this much.
