kepano (239), Meudon, France Feb 10, 2006 The final brew in the ’t IJ tryptich I had with my friend, IJwit, was not my favorite. The body like most witbiers was hazy but golden as wheat fields and topped of a creamy foam that bubbled at the center. The nose is more complex than one would expect for the style with the familiar wet straw, wheat, grain and coriander aromas initially dominating. A surprising fishy odor of salmon in lemon cream sauce emerges and is supported by the fruity sweet background of pineapple, peach and brown sugar. In flavor, the IJwit disappoints leaving a bland straw flavor on the tongue. With some effort, pepper, orange peel and chalk become noticeable, however the watery palate left me longing for something a bit more robust. I can imagine that it would be a tasty summer beer after an athletic effort but it doesn’t top my witbier list.
puzzl (2339), New York, New York, USA May 18, 2009 Bottle from NBD for only $1.50 out of their cooler... wow! This is a delicious wit. Very yeasty, fruity, a lovely balancing sweetness and strawberry finish, with a light tang and slightly wheaty body. This actually reminds me of a not-too-sour berliner weisse. Excellent effort here. SaintMatty (903), Tallinn, Estonia May 13, 2009 330ml Bottle - Amber in colour with a slight haze. Appealing aroma with banana, peach and a hint of spice. Fruity taste with banana cake, peach and passion fruit followied by a sweet and spicy finish. austone (794), Turku; Pori, Finland Mar 18, 2009 33cl bottle, from CK. Hazy golden, huge creamy white head. Wheaty aroma with strong coriander, vanilla yeastiness, earth and complex smokey apple tartness. Sourish, wheaty and mildly coriandery flavor, some bacon, warming peppery and appley finish. Hides it’s ABV totally. Lovely smooth moutfeel with tight carbonation. Nice strong "wit" with some farmhouse cider and lambic notes in it. I really have to get more from this brewery! Beer2000 (1619), Kristiansand, Norway Mar 7, 2009 On tap @ the brewery. Hazy golden body with a white head. Aroma is fruity, spicy and lemon. Flavor is quite sweet, but refreshing, malt, lemon, spices and yeast. Relatively bitter finish to be a wit. Quite straight forward but also a bit unusually wit. MoritzF (4510), Ruhrpott, Germany Feb 15, 2009 (33cl bottle) Cloudy, orange-golden colour with a big and stable blonde foamy head. Slightly sweet and yeasty malty aroma with a delicate wheat-character, accompanied by lemon-zest, mandarins and a flowery, blossom-like touch. Moderately sweet and slightly acidic flavour, light to medium bodied with a crispy carbonation. Malty, moderately wheaty and citrus-fruity, slightly zesty taste with light notes of coriander; fruit-accented, slightly tart and delicately bitter finish with a touch of coriander. Quite rounded Witbeer (08.II.09). rudolf (1660), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 19, 2009 Slightly hazy gold, thin white head. Nose is honey, a bit of nestle quick, a little bready malt, slight wood. Flavor is honey, carbonic acid, a little straw. Light tart/bretty aspects. martinboer (118), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jan 2, 2009 Bottle at home. Foamy, yelllow Witbier. Citrusy, and lemon tastes. Very smooth. Nice palate. Sour and enjoyable. theisti (1445), Leawood, Kansas, USA Dec 15, 2008 Rating #1200. 33 cl bottle courtesy of eaglefan538. Pour is slightly hazed yellow golden with a fluffy 2 inch white head. Falls quick with splotchy lacing. Aroma of citric wheat, lemons, lemon peel and grassy coriander. Nice nose, fresh and clean. Taste is the sharp acidic citric lemon and lemon peel. Under that is grassy, grainy wheat. A touch of honey ang ginger sweetness near the back. The ginger lingers in the aftertaste. The palate is light medium, very carbodated. Overall, nice refreshing wit. Thanks for sending it to me Brian.
