Almost no foam, dark, easy to drink, taste is bright with bitterness, something not enough

0.33 l bottle at ’Café Gollem’ (Raamsteeg). Hazy, dark brownish amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity taste of raisins, prunes, caramel, vanilla and brown sugar. Sweet, malty and minimally fruity taste of raisins, prunes, brown sugar, caramel and some vanilla, followed by a medium long, slightly warming, minimally alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

At a tasting, many thanks Mom and Dad, almost no head, slow gushing, murky brown color with reddish taints, aroma of smoke, oak and vanila, flavor of smoked cheese with a biscuity sweetish malt and some oak, light sourness, light to medium bitterness. A bit strange, fair.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks tomer. Murky amber. Somewhat smoky aroma with malt, caramel, some wood and some alcohol. Sweetish and slightly sourish flavor with alcohol, smoke, some wood, caramel. Medium-bodied.

Flaska från Saveur Bieré. Smak och doft av humle, malt, karamell, plommon, vita russin, farinsocker med toner av marsipan och choklad. Lagom sötma, syrlig, en aning pepprig beska med smak av citrusskal.

Bottled. Deep amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is toffee, some rather boozy notes along with some slight fruity and floral notes. Flavour is quite boozy with some very sweet fruity and floral notes as well as mild spices. Too much alcohol for it’s own good.

Pours a thick brown (almost black) glass of beer. A very nice Barley Wine with a nice aroma of malt and hops.

Bottle, Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Dark amber pour with a small off white head. Spice, caramel malts and fruits present in the beak. The flavour was pretty booze heavy with malts, yeast, wood and leather in attendance alongside some bitterness. Fair enough but not smashing it out the park.

33cl bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown with light brown medium head. Aroma is full of bread, caramel, coffee and malts. Taste is medium sweet, hints of caramel and medium bitterness. Maybe a bit too much alcohol on the malty aftertaste, even for a barley wine. Ending is nice, however. Decent companion for dark winter months.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber brown beer with a medium sized off white head on top. Aroma of loads of sugar, malts, slight chocolate, caramel. Flavor is medium sweet, slight vineous characters, caramel again. Not very complex, but the flavors are still very nice. Nice balance, nothing extraordinary or strange, just a well crafted Barley Wine. Nice.
