Dark brown color with good light tan head, hoppy aroma with citrus sensations, in mouth is with light carbonation, hoppy and roasted taste, in aftertaste like a sweet stout, coffee/licorice notes in good equilibrium with hop, one good BIPA with a beautiful bottle!

Bottle 330 ml at home, into a tulip. ABV 6.5% A very darkbrown coloured beer, with two full fingers of beige, thick head sitting on top, taking its time to collapse. After quite a long time what remains is heavy lacing on the glass and a thin line of foam on the beer’s surface. Very hoppy aroma, with grapefruit and orange peel upfront, while from the back aromas of roasted malts and dark chocolate are blending in. Taste is also a blend of citrus fruits, orange peels, grapefruits, roasted malts, more coffee and less chocolate, with a nice and quite intense hoppy bitterness, traveling all the way to the aftertaste, where it lingers for a significant amount of time. Medium body and good carbonation, with a bite on the tongue, just as much as it needs. Overall a very enjoyable beer.

33cl bottle at home. Dark brown, almost black with a medium beige head. Medium body with lively carbonation. Sweet with a dry hoppy finish. Coffee, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, some brown sugar and wood. A quality brew from ’t IJ.

Not my favorite ’t IJ beer but that’s probably because I am not a big fan of the style. The flavor is of burned malts some citrus and a lot of coffee beans and bitter hops. For me it is a bit too one dimensional. It does have a nice long bitter finish.

On tap @ Brouwerij ’t IJ. Very dark color (light wasn’t good, so couldn’t see if it was black/opaque etc). Steady beige to light brown head, good retention & lacing. Aroma’s: resin, bay leaves/laurel, and retronasal there’s roast/coffee, chocolate. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted, moderate bitter. Medium bodied, quite high carbonation. Finishes roasted, chocolate, coffee and eventually a nice hop-bitterness. Nice!

Many thanks Doberd for this Beer. Schwarzes Bier mit schöner großer bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr herb fruchtig nach exotischen Früchten, minimal röstmalzig. Geschmack röstig, Schokolade, Kaffe, fruchtig bitterer Abgang.

Quite enjoyable, has a dry finish with the hops coming through. Not too bitter, nice palate. Interesting to see ’t IJ trying more and more American style beers. Bottle from De Bierkoning.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass; Medium to bigger sized thick and very slow changing creamy beige foamy head on top of a black colored beer. Aroma has loads of roast with a light liquorice and herbal edge and a sprinkle of citrussy tones. The flavour is very roasty too. There’s also a nice bitterness and decent tones of coffee and liquorice. Just a slight tint of something hoppy/herbal. This could easily be a stout. Quite fresh though. The aftertaste is medium bitter (bit like coffee bitter) with tones of herbs, coffee, some crispy plant ish tones and some hay toast. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, good medium to lightly fuller bodied and a creamy texture. On one hand it’s quite a simple beer which is not really complicated (this is not a must at all) and on the other hand it’s simplicity makes it easy drinkable and enjoyable. More like a stout beer but there’s this fresh hoppy/citrus tone which takes this beer out of the stout corner. Quite nice!
