After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2015 Apparently the second beer from this renowned Dutch brewery, cloudy bronze with thick and frothy, yellowish white, moussy head and aroma of dried fruits, raisins, fondant, yoghurt, sweet cherries, banana, bubblegum, caramel, toasted bread, brown sugar and - at least in the tap version - a certain amount of iron clearly pointing at head stabilizing agents; well-balanced sweetish fruity taste, sweet cherries, banana, hazelnuts with a sourish touch (stronger in the bottle I tasted years ago, likely caused by onsetting infection at that time); nicely caramelly malty with nutty and chocolatey accents, dryish finish of herbal hops with lingering malt sweetness. Very tasty, well-crafted and exemplary dubbel, too bad for the iron in the aroma.

Niet helemaal wat ik er van had verwacht. Wel prima bier met redelijk wat graan er in. Wel gebalanceerd maar daardoor ook niet echt spannend. @home ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Grand Café, Schiphol Airport, 09.12.14. Hazy nut brow. Diminishing, beige head. Aroma of caramel, cereals and barnyard, with a hint of green apples. Dark caramel, raw malt and cereals in taste.

Pours a cloudy dark brown with minimal tan head. Nose has banana, barnyard and earthy tones. Mouth has licorice, chocolate and coffee. Slightly bittersweet. Medium slick body with a nice carbonation. A surprisingly multifaceted dubbel that leaves something to be desired in the palate department.
