After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.

Bottle pours hazy copper red with an off white frothy head. Aroma of caramel, clove, spice, roasted grain. Taste is light clove, grain, slight alcohol warmth, caramel, and earthy hop. Medium-light body with a slightly bitter finish.

Warning exploded like a young girl with her favorite pop star for the first time. Open over a sink. 330 ml bottle found in my cellar. Pours a cloudy brown with a fast to go off white head. Aroma is dark fruits, alcohol, and glue. Taste is dark wood and mellow herbs. Palate was smoother than expected. I was really in a bad mood after this one decorated my livingroom but its not bad. .

33cl bottle @ home. Hazy reddish-darkbrown color, average beige head. Aroma caramel, mocca, slight alcohol in the nose, malty, roasty. Medium sweetness, medium bitterness. Full body, average carbonation, average bitter-sweet finish, more fine coffeeish bitternes at the end with the yeasty bottom. Good one but not too exciting.

330ml bottle from ’t Ij Brewery, Amsterdam. After a couple of disappointing beers on Christmas Day I had to go for a dependable brewery and this ’t Ij dubbel certainly hit the spot. Smooth, dark and full of earthy character this is a full-tasting beer with roasted nuts, caramel and lovely dark malts. Just wish I had another on the shelf!

A very nice and dark one. Caramel mixed with nuts and some chocolate. Quaffy and easy to drink. But also a well balanced piwo which offers a lot of different aromas. Brewed with knowledge and love.

Medium golden-brown with a off-white, lacy, lasting head. Smells of heavy yeast, dried fruit that’s a bit ripe, caramel, and malt. Medium body. Medium sweet taste with some roasted malt, caramel and dried berries with a bitter earthy finish. Its nice but not amazing.
