3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 mkel07 (1553) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUL 24, 2010
330ml bottle. Thick creamy tan coloured foam head that crackles. Murky and mysterious muddy brown colour that doesn’t detract from the appearance. Sweet stewed prune and raisin aromas are rich and clinging. Smooth texture in the mouth like silk and has a long effect on the palate with fruit and spices coming to the forefront.

I don’t know what the weird label signifies - an ostrich with egg, standing in a desert with a windmill in the background. Mine was nearly a year past its 12/01 best by date though it was in my fridge awhile. Subdued aroma of raisins, malt, vanilla and chocolate. Cloudy brown color with no significant head involved. Some minty hops, also. I did taste an iron mineral element, as others have previously noted. Flavor is also a bit subdued with more raisins and chocolate, and a nice crisp, dry finish. Sweet and sour aspects add complexity. This is a good beer but just seems a bit weak or diluted. Compare to Belgian dubbels, brown ales or British old ales.

Deep amber/chestnut color, hazy. A little caramel and wood. Complex and uncommon but still subtle. A little woody, a little German in its hopping? (on tap at brewery)

Deep garnet body with a light brown sugar colored head. The aroma is sweet with prunes and some hints of herbs. There is also a definite milk chocolate note. The taste is raspberries with some iced mocha. There is also some light cola in the finish. A pleasing brew, this is interesting. Very low carbonation.
