COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.

Pours a cloudy brown with a bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Slightly sweet aroma of spices. Flavor of lights spices and malts, and brown sugar. A little more sweet and lighter than most dubbels that I’ve had, but pretty good nonetheless.

0,33l Flasche. Braunes Bier mit kleiner beiger Schaumkrone. Riecht nach Röstmalzen und Schokolade. Schmeckt malzig, ein wenig nach trockenen Früchten. OK!

Bottle on the street @ Kingsday, Amsterdam. Well, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Not big on doubles, bit syrupy, malty. People like it.

330 ml. bottle @ home. Purchased @ Albert Heijn. BBF 02/2016. Dark hazy red amber, small beige head. Nose is thick cough syrup, caramel malts, herbal, light fish guts umami, sticky, thick, herbal, estery,… Taste is metallic, fish guts, herbal, umami, honey, light bitter herbs, caramel, raisin, taste is a bit hollow, too much fish guts, umami, estery, herbal flavors for me,… Herbal, metallic bitter. Body feel rather thin & metallic. The kind of BE style brewing that I am not a fan of, it lacks a chewy malt body to balance it all, it would have worked better with a solid brown sugar / malty base.

Apparently the first beer from this renowned Dutch brewery, cloudy bronze with thick, yellowish white, moussy head and aroma of dried fruits, raisins, fondant, yoghurt, caramel, toasted bread, brown sugar; restrained fruity taste, sweetish with a distinct, saison-like, ’low’ sourishness, maybe the result of mild infection; malty, with dry finish of herbal hops, continuing sourishness and a faint hint of roasted bitterness. Unusual for a dubbel.
