After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.

Excellent funky barrel aroma. Amber with slight white head. Moderate sweetness, just a hint of funk and slight burnt finish. An excellent, different take on the dubbel.

Smell of candy. Muddy colour, white head. Aroma of yeast, banana, alcohol, cough mixture. Sweet. Soft and plentiful carbon. Oily.

bartlebier (1162) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - APR 10, 2014
33cl, Bierenzo sampler 2013 - bb08/2014. Pours a murky, soft brown, mauvish hued with organically delicate head. Aroma of fallen autumn leaves, woody humus, older fig compote. Taste is same, with a remarkable lack of fruit sugars, more earthy and leafy notes. Dry, thinner mouthfeel. Another pleasantly non-sucrotic modern Dutch update of an old Low Country classic, just lacking a bit extra in profile.

Bottle. Pours a murky brown with a foamy head. Aroma is malty with a hint of raisin. Taste is sweet and fruity. Dried fruits, plums, raisins. Bit watery but a nice beer nonetheless.

Pours dark brown with small off-white head. Aroma is malty, some nuts, some dried prunes. Taste-wise there’s lots of roastyness, caramel, a bit of dark fruit and an elusive bitter note that makes this highly drinkable and more-ish. Mouthfeel is light, a bit watery. Excellent light dubbel, lekker!

Birra dal gusto prevalentamente dolce, con note di malto, caramello, lieviti e una sfumatura di miele. Una buona dubbel con l’anima olandese.

At the brewery on tap: Pours light brown with an off-white head. Aroma is lightly fruity and plenty earthy. Taste is slightly bitter in a peculiar earthy way. Quite malty. A little bit burnt. Some honey. Somewhat simple, but interesting and unique.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein trübes rötlichbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch nach getrockneten Früchten, Hefe, Karamell. Geschmack hefig, Karamell, Früchte, leicht gewürzig.

Not my favorite from this brewer. maybe because the double is not my favorite style. it has a nice dark opaque colour and the head dissapears fast. Taste of yeast, licorice, burned malts and dark sugar without being overly sweet. The flavor fades fast and would be better with more hops.
