COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.

Excellent funky barrel aroma. Amber with slight white head. Moderate sweetness, just a hint of funk and slight burnt finish. An excellent, different take on the dubbel.

Clear red/brown color, thin texture, aromas of ripe fruits, dry finish with interesting chocolate and coffee notes. Sweet beer but I was expecting it to be much sweeter: it was a pleasant surprise.

33 cl bottle at home. Pours a deep red-brown colour, white head soon disappears. Interesting aroma of woodsmoke, musty earth and vinous fruit. Rich taste of chocolate malt and more fruit, sweetish but with a balancing dryness. Smooth and rich on the tongue, short bitter finish. I quite like this, ideal for an autumn afternoon.

Flesje, 33 cm.

Chocolate brown and dark. Smells slightly of cocoa together with an oily note and some spices I can’t place. Allspice? Rosemary? There is little, if anything, to complain about in the taste. It is powerfully sweet with some mature alcohol/yeast notes which give associations to cough syrup, oil and prunes. The aftertaste is also powerful and rich.

On tap at the taphouse. Red color, clear, with a beige head. Very mild aroma, could only get some caramel if I tried really hard. Taste is sweetness supreme, caramel, plums, raisins, malts, belgian yeast.Sweet aftertaste, a little spicy. Medium body with medium carbonation. A nice dubbel!

Looks like mud but doesn’t taste like it. A little bit of chocolate and a little bit of coffee.
