COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our pils is a sturdy, hoppy and blossomy blond beer, which is top fermented. Brewed from 100% barley malt. You really should have a couple of these in your fridge. On tap only in our tasting room and Cafe De Balie.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2010 Probably the best pils I’ve had. Aroma reminds me of Orval and Westvleteren Blond. Taste is lemony, herbal with a dry bitterness at the end. Unusually long persistence in the mouth for that type of product. Fantastic beer.

Clear golden with a huge white fluffy head. Dry aroma with plenty of brett, hops and hints of malt. Dry flavour with plenty of brett, grassy hops and malty hints. Finished dry and bitter.

Fresh on tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy unfiltered golden- almost a hefeweizen look to it- nice white head some lace. Aroma is very earthy, grassy tons of hops, some spice and phenolic off hints with lemon zest hint and mostly fresh bready pils malts. Flavor is pils malt, cracker, light bread, toast grass herbs, phenolic slight sharpness especially when cold with a slight lactic or citric acid zing in the finish- but still crisp and easy drinking. Not bad.

Draft at the brewpub. Hazy gold with white head. Light hop and significant barley aromas. Very clean and decently hoppy. Very pils.

Bottle from de Bierkoning. Very rocky head. The bottle had not been kept upright, so there was some unpleasant yeast residue in the neck and head. Fresh, hoppy pilsener, maybe a bit too much ado about the secondary fermentation. Probably great on tap.

Tap at the IJ brouwerij proeflokaal, Amsterdam on 20th March 2010. Gold with white head. Bitter, dry and hoppy. Sightly weaker in flavour than on previous visits. Still refreshing and dry hoppy aftertaste on a fairly smooth to zingy mouthfeel.

Bottle at Kookstudio Amsterdam on the recommendation of the owner. It says it’s a pilsner, but it is not. The first swig I had from the bottle was such a surprise I had to get a glass to check it out properly. It tasted like Orval! Sure enough when I poured it out it had a lovely large frothy lacework of a head. Bitter, sour, sweet and strength in a good balance. Not as strong as Orval, but to call it Orval light is to do this beer a disservice. Really an amazing surprise/find.
