Formerly called ’t IJ Scharrel IJwit A full-bodied, Amsterdam wheat beer that is dangerously ‘moreish’. Slightly cloudy, it has a beautiful golden colour and a soft, foamy head. When we brew IJwit, we use wheat malt as well as barley malt, which is also how the beer gets its name. The wheat malt gives the beer a delightful, fresh flavour, and the addition of coriander and lemon during the brewing process produces a rich aroma of banana, citrus and spices. Topped off by a fine, slightly sweet aftertaste, IJwit is a delicious thirst-quencher.

Bottle 33cl. Cloudy yellow buttery color, good creamy white head, mostly diminishing, thin layer remains; aroma of wheat, coriander, some banana, floral hops; smooth light sweet and slightly sour taste; medium body, oily texture, good carbonation; in the finish some lingering bitter notes are added to the sweetsour taste. Not a real witbeer but somewhere in between that and a weizen but a nice beer anyway.

Here then is a beer that is what it says on the label, it’s clean,. refreshing, has some nice flavours and is pretty decent, not dressed up or challenge you to taste what the marketing people say it is. I like that.. Nice lemons and citrus, clean palate, decent finish, very refreshing and just good.

Bottle at NS tasting. Pale gold pour with thick white head. Aroma is grainy, nice spicy coriander, light orange aroma, orange zest, grassy as well, rather well hopped for a witbier. Taste is bitter and sweet, orange zest, grassy hops, light spicy finish. Palate is well carbed, maybe a tad prickly carbonation, light and refreshing yet satisfying. Nice.

Troebel witgeel bier met een wit luchtige schuimkraag. Geur licht citrus. Smaak zoet citrus met redelijk CO2, met een licht bittere nasmaak.

Fruity almost blonde beer. Tastes like bananas and citrus, but very very light. Has a full feel in the mouth and tingles a tiny bit. Very very fresh and light, not very bitter. Great beer

Colour: golden yellow, straw gold with a firm white head. Nose: wheat, bread, toast, sugar and ripe fruits. Smells a lot like a blonde beer. Flavours: Orange & lemon peel, citrus, grains (cereal). Hints of hops and candy sugar. Again suspiciously blonde... Finish: medium length, refreshing and fruity. Verdict: fine beer, but a bit too ’blonde’ to classify it as a witbier.
