COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly called ít IJ Scharrel IJwit A full-bodied, Amsterdam wheat beer that is dangerously Ďmoreishí. Slightly cloudy, it has a beautiful golden colour and a soft, foamy head. When we brew IJwit, we use wheat malt as well as barley malt, which is also how the beer gets its name. The wheat malt gives the beer a delightful, fresh flavour, and the addition of coriander and lemon during the brewing process produces a rich aroma of banana, citrus and spices. Topped off by a fine, slightly sweet aftertaste, IJwit is a delicious thirst-quencher.

Bottle @ home. Aroma is hops, lemon, some spices and herbs, weird sidenote. Flavour is medium bitter, nice lemon note, faint spices and herbs. Nice one, even on a dark winter night, must try it again in the summer!

A- Pours a hazy yellow with a frothy head that doesnít last very long and leaves little lacing. S- Smelled really nice, lotís of Banana, fresh baked bread, and some vanilla. Very sweet smelling with some spice added T- Not as clean tasting as most Witís, but still very tasty and I am not complaining. Again, banana along with some other fruity flavors, apple maybe, cloves, spice, and some pepper on the back end. Very different but really tasty and went SO nicely with brunch. Weird because it was not what I was looking for but still I really liked it. M- Pretty smooth, but normally that is not what I am looking for in a Wit. Hmm usually the big bubbles and light zing is a great palate cleanser with food. This one is smooth and creamy. . . good but not what I prefer in a Wit. D- Very easy to drink, but again when compared to most Witís it does not have those same clean, refreshing qualities. I could still drink this quite a bit but itís just not the same. Very good beer, but not in the traditional sense. Most of the Beers from ít IJ that I have tried have been a bit "different" so I guess this is no surprise. In the end I rated this as the beer itself and NOT as or compared to other Witbiers.

Bottle. Gold blonde colour, white, diminishing head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma has citrus, coriander, lime. Tastes somewhat bitter and somewhat alcoholic. Nice but not so special.

In short: A thick doughy yeasty blonde ale of some kind.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a medium white head
In long: Nose is very yeasty with notes of banana. Taste is a doughy freshly baked banana cake. Nothing crisp or refreshing here, this is a thick heavy yeast soup. A bit too sweet for the style. Surprisingly I thought there was a lot a strong coriander-like spiciness in their Tripel (t IJ Zatte) but not a lot in this witbier. Weird. Anyway the whole thing what too thick and doughy to feel like a witbier, I did not even get the wheat/hay sensation. Fails as a witbier but acceptable as a no-style extra yeasty blonde ale. But here I am, nice sunny day, sitting on a beautiful brewpub patio in the beautiful Amsterdam complaining that my witbier is not refreshing enough. Truth is, life is not treating me so bad. I enjoy life, it gives me something to do.

Only lightly hazy yellow. Light yeastiness, fruit, lemon orange. Gives up its flavor slowly, subtly. Not super big. Low bitterness. Soft yet a bit limpn. Almost went to a 2 on palate. (on tap at brewery)
