Formerly called ’t IJ Scharrel IJwit A full-bodied, Amsterdam wheat beer that is dangerously ‘moreish’. Slightly cloudy, it has a beautiful golden colour and a soft, foamy head. When we brew IJwit, we use wheat malt as well as barley malt, which is also how the beer gets its name. The wheat malt gives the beer a delightful, fresh flavour, and the addition of coriander and lemon during the brewing process produces a rich aroma of banana, citrus and spices. Topped off by a fine, slightly sweet aftertaste, IJwit is a delicious thirst-quencher.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ the Marqt supermarket, Den Haag. Slightly hazy golden yellow with a white head. Wheaty citrus aroma with some banana. It still is a Belgian white but leans also towards a hefe-weizen. Nice beer.

@ Röhällavägen. Bottle (330 ml) from Kihoskh, Copenhagen. Fruity and quite spicy with wheaty and yeasty notes, some acidic notes as well, a bit too fizzy, medium body and an oily texture. The finish is dry and bitter with wheaty and yeasty notes. A really nice Witbier.

A hazy golden beer with a bubbly white head. Nose is quite spicy as expected. Taste is clove, citrus, mostly spicy. Decent but not outstanding witbier.

Tasty beer, especially for the style. Yeasty body of barley and wheat, combined with a spicy and fruity flavor. Good.

Heldere citroengele kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt fruitig, zoetig, mout. Smaakt, fruitig, hop. Iets bitter.

On tap @ ’t IJ. Slightly hazy/cloudy bright golden with a small persistent white head and little lacing. Taste is dominated by coriander, but it’s not disturbing (often, I don’t like when the coriander take too much place is a Wit). There’s also lemony notes, fresh cereals, banana and minty notes. Taste is also of coriander, but there’s more lemon and citrus zest than in the aroma. Banana is present there too, with cereals and banana notes. Light to medium body. Moderate carbonation. Smooth finish. Well constructed Witbier with enough cereals presence to balance the coriander. The nice subtle lemon/orange zest touch help the drinkability.

Pour golden and hazy in a tulip glass, small head that persists quite well. Aromas of coriander, yeast, spices, banana. Tastes like orange zest, bit sweet, little bitterness. Palata is really smooth with sweet, fresh and malty aftertaste. One of the best witbiers I’ve drunk.
