On tap at Cafe Belgique, Amsterdam. Orange, with a small, creamy head. Really agressive fare. Toiletty bitterness to begin, then a pronounced peppery dryness which lingers a long time. All this on a wheaty base akin to Paasij (moments of malt and cream). Perhaps a little too harsh, though interesting and full of depth.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Hunsell (400) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 18, 2004
UPDATED: MAY 11, 2005 This is very interesting. I’ve had 2 of this one, a new one, and one that was approximately 2 years old, and the difference was quite large. The new one is very hoppy, bitter, lightly fruity, quite heavily spiced. The older one was much sweeter, still some bitterness but much less than the first one, and very, very smooth. Strong citrusaroma ánd taste. I like both of them but prefer the older one.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Crosling (1863) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - OCT 3, 2004
Sampled at Arendsnest in Amsterdam, Holland.
Chestnut.
Freshly hopped, spicy, floral and somewhat appealing, still very subtle, with fruit flavors of orange, coriander and clove.
Highly hopped, dry and fruity with notes of coriander, orange, tangerine, lemon and biscuit like malt. Thin body and sparse carbonation.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ernest (5647) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 4, 2004
Head is initially large, frothy, rocky, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (lemon, grass), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of coriander, clove, orange, and tangerine. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Wow, this is a winner! Very attractive aroma, juicy but nicely balanced flavor.

A orange beer with sediment floating around and a fine white head. Both the aroma and flavor is sweet with notes of coriander and oranges. The body is a little thin.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - MAR 1, 2004
Cloudy amber color; big creamy head. Malty aroma; grass; hop flowers. Malty, good body structure, a bit aggressive (carbonation, lupolone) with very good hop notes, peculiar for Belgian (Dutch) Ales; very bitter. Long final, strong, partially aromatic. Thanks Jacob (Lövenlund) for this very good beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sayravai (4654) - Helsinki, FINLAND - FEB 28, 2004
UPDATED: SEP 28, 2008 (Bottled) Opaque orange with lots of yeast, and a smallish, firm and lacy head. Sourish-malty aroma with lots of aromatic, flowery and spicy hops. Reminds me a bit of Orval. Slightly sour flavor with a quite original spiciness, and lots of aromatic hops. Dry and quite bitter finish. Quite carbonated, medium-bodied palate. Nicely tart and hoppy brew, that has something in common with Orval and Arabier.
