Dubbed a barleywine style by the brewery, but with added complexity and a strong Belgian twist. A powerful, dark beer.

Bottle (in NZ) - lively pours, a hazy dark amber with a large frothy yellowish head. On the nose - medicinal, toffee, some fruit, and slightly nutty. Fruity and spicy, with warming alcohol on the palate. Big and bold, but just doesn’t ruffle my feathers.

Had this from bottle at the brewpub, Amsterdam, 27th Oct 2009 Pours hazy dark brown with an off-white filmy head. There are malts and hops in abundance on the nose and also in the mouth along with a nice chewiness, bit of banana and a very nice warmth from the alcohol. Soft in the mouth, good spiciness, powerful brew, but tasty stuff and the third very nice beer from this brewpub. A7 A4 F7 P5 Ov15 3.8

Bottled 33cl. Hazy ruby with a nicely lasting lacing light beige head. The nose is really impressive- reminiscent of Orval. Candied fruits, hops and blackberries throughout. Maltier than Orval. Strong carbonation. Complex. I reveled in every sip. A fantastic beer!

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a fruity nose that has a hint of spirit. There are flavours of apples, cinnamon and dates and the mouth is quite dry. A pretty good beer but there is a slight sourness to it which I don’t find as endearing as a lot of other beers in this style.

330ml Bottle - Hazy brown with a foamy tan head. Fruity and spicy aroma with raisins, caramel and some pleasant spicy hints. Fruity taste with a tart and spicy element with rangers and a hint of clove. Not bad and very drinkable.
