A barley wine brewed in the English style. Struis is a full-bodied beer with a deep, dark colour and a soft, long-lasting head. The aroma is dark and sweet, with clear tones of chocolate and dried fruit. The aftertaste is dry and long-lasting, and leaves you yearning for more. A delicious accompaniment to food and ideal with skeapsrond cheese. Struis is only available as a bottled beer.

Murky, dark amber. Thick, offwhite head. Deep, fruity and yeasty aroma. Creamy mouthfeel, not too sweet. Yeasty flavour, soft mouthfeel. Rather elegant.

Bottle. Pours murky copper brown with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of fruit and malt, with estery touches. Sweet flavour of fruit and caramel, with notes of malt and yeast, and touches of hops. Sugary and vinous aftertaste, with rough, estery notes and alcohol bitterness. Nice.

Nice complex dark beer, bit like a Belgian barley wine. Very fruity and yeasty, with notes of raisin and chocolate.

Bottle. Brown mahogany. Bready brown malty, with some sort of fruityness. Sort of belgian yeasty- fruity, with a bit of estery notes (elderflowers/meadowy and a bit of something tipping towards ripe fruits). Full bodied, but not overpowering. Dark bready, quite clean. Somewhat roasty / smokey. Nice drink. Barley wines scare me, as they’re too often unpalatable sweet malty messes, but this feels almost like a strong porter of some sorts. Abv deceptively well hidden.

Bottle from the bierkoning. Dark hazy brown pour with long lasting creamy tan foam. Aroma is fruity, port, chocolate, lots of cocoa actually, maybe a bit too much, comes off kind of vegetal. Taste is sweet, fruity, boozy, chocolaty, light toasted malt notes, lots of toffee, nice malty flavor, warming alcohol finish. Palate is med-full bodied with light-medium carbonation. Nice flavor and palate, aroma is a tad off, still a nice sipper.

Classic barley wine with some earth in the back and some leaves on the tongue. Beside this it is packed with ripe fruits and a decent amount of alcohol. Not bad.

Pours out of the bottle in a deep dark brown colour with smooth head and smooth body. Wonderful aroma of cake, barley and prunes- Taste of dried fruits, plums, chocolate, roasted barley, bread, cake, biscuits and malt. Earthy-leavy finish with big hints of dried fruits.

Nice hops are balanced out with some ripe red fruit esters. Alcohol content is hidden really well.

33cl bottle from Kokkes (Amsterdam Zuid). Pours very dark red to brown with an off white head. Aromas of yeast (almost cheese-like), dark grapes. A little bit musty. Tastes of coffee, dark grapes, licorice, quite sweet, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Sweetness and carbonation stay on the palate for quite a while.
