COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A barley wine brewed in the English style. Struis is a full-bodied beer with a deep, dark colour and a soft, long-lasting head. The aroma is dark and sweet, with clear tones of chocolate and dried fruit. The aftertaste is dry and long-lasting, and leaves you yearning for more. A delicious accompaniment to food and ideal with skeapsrond cheese. Struis is only available as a bottled beer.

The beer has a nice appearance. The color of the beer is beautiful, and depends on the amount of light. It varies from brown, trough ruby red towards dark amber. The beer is very cloudy. The beer pours a little amount of rough slightly off white foam. However, I had to pour the beer trough a dig because the bottle was damaged and there was a chance of glass in the beer. This might have interfered with the formation of foam. The smell of the beer is quite nice. It has a strong syrup like sweetness, balanced out by a nice bitter roast aroma. The smell also has some alcohol in it, but it doesn’t have the overhand. It creates a very nice sweet and slightly bitter warming aroma, that is a great match with the sweet syrup and the bitter roast. The taste of the beer is very great. It is a whole new range of beers. I don’t know if I ever had a barley wine before, but I sure like it. The beer has a very nice sweet flavor, of caramel, syrup and candy sugar. This is balanced out by a nice salty aspect of the caramel and a nice smokey bitternes of roasted barley. There is also a nice raisiny and slightly sour yeast flavor, which is perfect with all the other flavors and aromas. I am a fan. The only downside is the lack of carboxylation. It is a little to flat to me. Becomes of this the beer has a rather ’thick’ but creamy palate. Besides this, the beer is near perfect.

Bottle. Fresh and crisp, but still sweet, quit unusual for a barley wine. The ABV is only noticeable in the sweetness. Some candy, bubblegum.

Amber color with beige head. Aroma is candied sugar and some flowery aromas. Taste is more candied sugar, some plums, a little bit thin for a Barley Wine. But very easy drinking and a nice taste. Just not very complex.

0,33l bottle. Hazy brown colour with quickly disappearing beige head. Aroma: Caramel, banana, nuts, vanilla, smoke. Taste: Very sweet malty taste with hiding light bitterness. I don’t feel any special notes, but it has a very good mouth feel. Smokey caramel maybe. Light carbonation with medium/full body. Very pleasent long bitter/sweet finish. Not my best barley wine but a very good one.

bottle - Pours dark burgundy colored with a large, light tan head. It smells of malt, toffee, and dark fruit. The flavor is very sweet with caramel, dark fruit, and then alcohol that’s mostly buried under sugary sweetness. It’s fairly good but a little too sweet for me.

Kolor: <Brązowy. Mętny. Na dnie cała masa pływających drobinek.
Piana: Gushing konkretny po otworzeniu piwa. Piwo wyciekało przez kilka minut. Piana ładna w kolorze złamanej bieli, drobna. Krótko się utrzymuje. Zero lacingu.
> Zapach : Bardzo różnorodny. Mocno słodowy. Umiarkowanie karmelowy. Trochę nut znanych z mocnych piw belgijskich , trochę z piw pszenicznych. Aromat suszonych owoców (śliwki, daktyle, morele). Minimalny aromat angielskich chmieli.
Smak: Nuty owoców : śliwka, ciemne winogrona. Nuty zbożowe, tostowe i przypieczona skórka od chleba. Tu i ówdzie lekki banan. Piwo bardzo rozgrzewające. Smak grzanego wina. Alkohol minimalnie wychodzi na zewnątrz. Finisz umiarkowanie słodki. Goryczka średnia nieco alkoholowa.
Wysycenie: Wysokie.
Podsumowanie:
Ten holenderski Barley Wine jest mocny , intensywny, wielowarstwowy. Aromat i smak suszonych owoców, skórki od chleba, karmelu. Piwo jest pełne i bardzo treściwe. Smakuje jak dobry belgijski dubel. Warte polecenia!

Bottle 33cl. Deep brown with a slight red glow. Nice off white head that fades quickly. Aroma with touches of sugar, caramel and malts. The taste is sweetish and has a nice bitterness in the aftertaste combined with the glow of alcohol.
