COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A barley wine brewed in the English style. Struis is a full-bodied beer with a deep, dark colour and a soft, long-lasting head. The aroma is dark and sweet, with clear tones of chocolate and dried fruit. The aftertaste is dry and long-lasting, and leaves you yearning for more. A delicious accompaniment to food and ideal with skeapsrond cheese. Struis is only available as a bottled beer.

I’ve been recently in Amsterdam and this one has been the great surprise of the beers I’ve tasted. Sincerely, I didn’t expect a such great beer: tasty, full, powerful, with a looking that may cheat (cloudy and a little bit dull amber). The taste to fresh grain, caramel and a thousand things more is really complex and warmy. Excellent, really.

33cl bottle. Brown colour with minimal and quickly dissipating off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel and red fruits notes. Flavor is sweet from the beginning to the end, yeasty, barley malts present, caramel, candy sugar, red fruits and with a decent alcoholic sensation. On palate results moderate bittery, sweet, alcoholic and dense. The final is also alcoholic and with toffee notes. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high. Texture is light oily.

The beer pours a hazy dark amber color with a khaki head. Sweet dark fruit and brown sugar on the nose. A mild toasted quality, some yeast, and a bit of molasses. The flavor is also rather heavy on the sugar and dark fruit characteristics. Some molasses, toffee, and toast. Maybe a hint of spices, some yeast, and that’s about it. Just quite sweet and not terribly complex or interesting.

330ml bottle happy drinking and eating at Håndverkerstuene in friendly company wit OleR and Hege. Densely foamed, off-white head. Spotty lacing to the glassware. Orange coloured body, unclear. Aroma of basement and fruity cheese. The taste character is rather complex revealing almond, dried fruits and backdrops of yeasty fruitiness. Mid-dry on the swallow. Mostly hidden alcohol. Nice and likable (Oslo, 15.09.2012

Cloudy orange in colour with a thin but lasting off-white coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is quite yeasty and musty, some sugary sweetness, funk and mild alcohol, floral. The flavour is rather yeasty, lots of orange and lemon citrus, some alcohol with an underlying sourness. Musty mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation Finishes long, yeasty with some funk and alcohol.

Its nice. The floral hops come out more in the aroma as this warms. A funky beer for sure.

330ml bottle obtained in a trade with Beerlando, thanks Bryan.
Opened on February 21, 2010.
Best before November 2007.

Ruby with off-white foam head lacing to glass. Little aroma, may be because I drinking this outside with farmer smell around me. Taste is barley with little sweet aftertaste. (Velp 201206) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
