footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 7, 2004 Murky reddish brown brew.Nose is complex, toffee candy bar and a plum fruit note also.Flavor at first turned me off until I let this sit for awhile a warm up.The sweetness of the toffee and fruit came in big once this warmed a little.Still a little sour on the palate. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia Nov 4, 2004 Strong caramel in aroma, even a bit of chocolate. Dark brown with a medium head. Full bodied and smooth. Sweet caramel with dark fruits. Also slightly citric and yeasty. Nice. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Oct 30, 2004 Hazy dark amber colored, creamy off-white head. Rosted malt and spices dominates the aroma with fruity and citrusy tones underneath. Flavor is extremely sweet fruity and orangy. Notes of plum, yeast and hay. Strange and different and a little cloying in the long run, still tasty. duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Oct 24, 2004 Bottle. Sticky caramel and quite yeasty. Quite a lot of alcohol showing, definitely on the yeasty side of things, perhaps a bit too much so. RichardWilding (190), London, Greater London, England Oct 20, 2004 Bottled at Microbar, Battersea. Described as smelling like "Blue cheese and Christmas pudding", and that is actually right! Very cheesy nose. This was not detected when tasted. A fine dark brown beer, with a smallish white head. Full bodied, fairly sweet. Yeastiness and some hops delevop later. chriso (4667), London, Greater London, England Oct 17, 2004 Dark brown colour, with a garnet tinge. Malty, with some spice, stewed fruit and chocolate accents, but rather sweet. A bit too sweet for me, but still flavoursome and reasonably palatable. Bottled at St Albans Beer Festival.
Hunsell (400), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 17, 2004 Updated: Nov 9, 2005Very intense fruity/spicy aroma, that lingers for days. Dark, mahogany, nice head that disappears rather quickly. Sweet and intense, warm, yeasty and fruity, pretty odd but very pleasant in every way. For me, this is one, especially suitable for cold, dark evenings, just sippin’ this beauty watching the snow fall in the light of the lantern. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 15, 2004 Brown sugar, raisins, dates, plums, toffee, yeast in the aroma. Almost smells like a Belgian Bock. Opaque mahogany brown with tan head that recedes to cover with minor lace. Very sweet, sugary dark fruits with minor roastiness in the finish. Full bodied and somewhat sticky in the mouth. Probably would have faired much better if sampled by itself rather than in the middle of a tasting session. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere at Spuyten Duyvil (Brooklyn, New York).
