A barley wine brewed in the English style. Struis is a full-bodied beer with a deep, dark colour and a soft, long-lasting head. The aroma is dark and sweet, with clear tones of chocolate and dried fruit. The aftertaste is dry and long-lasting, and leaves you yearning for more. A delicious accompaniment to food and ideal with skeapsrond cheese. Struis is only available as a bottled beer.

Reddish brown with bubbly tan head. Touch of leather and tobacco, with nice dried fruits, orange peel, bit of spice (cloves), milk chocolate. Bitter vegetal touch, with medium sweetness. Spicy and vegetal aftertaste. Medium body, slightly fizzy carbonation, slight alcohol presence. Not really my favorite style, but quite enjoyed this actually. Nice complexity.

Murky copper brown to salty liquorice color, foamy dark beige head quite bubbly, good retention, thin sticky layer remains; strong sweet malty nose, roasted, caramel, coffee, brown sugar, dark fruit, syrup, spruce, alcohol; mild sweetbitter taste; full body, oily texture, lively carbonation; lasting sweetbitter finish with roasted malts and some dark fruits, you donít taste the amount of alcohol thus a tricky beer ;-)

Strange one. Pours hazy with robust head. Taste is sweet with some... seafood notes. I swear. I feel oyster here. Lots of dried fruit in the aftertaste. Full body. Some bitterness, but not enough. Good one.

Not as dark as you tend to expect. Dark amber color. Not the firm head they promised, it disappeared rather quickly. Despite that: nice taste. I taste some coffee, sweet fruits. Even though itís on the sweet side, the balance is okay. The t IJ beers tend to have a watery mouthfeel, I actually like it, even in this heavier beer as it not influences the richness of the taste.

Hazy brown appearance with decent head. Strong dark fruity aroma. Very sweet, well rounded bitter finish. Medium towards full body, overall very good.

Aroma: Yeast and a herbal hop edge turning quickly to a soapy smell. Appearance: Lovely deep-red amber, slightly hazy with a small head. Taste: Plum, raisin, demerara sugar with hints of roasted coffee and a yeasty aftertaste. Palate: Medium light body with a sticky texture and fizzy carbonation. Hot alcohol finish. Overall: More of a Quad than a Barley wine. Not bad but could do with more softness, roundness and complexity.

Douberd (1690) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - NOV 8, 2013
Bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a snifter. ABV 9% Very deep red to light brown colour on the body, with two fingers of light beige foam sitting on top. Thick enough, with average retention, eventually collapses to a thin film covering the beer, with a thick line of it around the glassís walls. Fruity aroma, caramel, lightly malty. Taste is grainy, malty, nuts, obvious alcohol, red fruits. Nice bitterness on the aftertaste, mild, with good duration. Medium thick body, nice carbonation. Overall very good and dangerously drinkable.

Bottle. Brown and powerful. Sweetness dominates with a trace of smokiness. A straightforward strong beer that should be respected.

Bottle 0,33L. Murky copper brown colour with small, mostly lasting, creamy, light brown head. Strong fruity aroma of pineapple, peach, raspberry, pine hops and slightly alcoholic nose. Sweet, rich fruity taste with moderate bitter, but still fruity aftertaste. Full body with oily texture and lively carbonation. Alcohol is noticable, but still very well hidden. This beer realy rocks!
