A barley wine brewed in the English style. Struis is a full-bodied beer with a deep, dark colour and a soft, long-lasting head. The aroma is dark and sweet, with clear tones of chocolate and dried fruit. The aftertaste is dry and long-lasting, and leaves you yearning for more. A delicious accompaniment to food and ideal with skeapsrond cheese. Struis is only available as a bottled beer.

It?s the nice smooth barley wine. Not so overwhelming whiny as some. There is barley, brown sugar, salty and mild sour.

0,33l bottle Appearance: Hazy purplish brown. with a small ring as head. aroma: Sherry ( fruity alcoholic) , caramel, malt. Taste: Starts with caramel & chocolate then some fruits and alcohol before there is a light bitter and still sweet finish . Aftertaste of chocolate & fruits. Body is thin and a bit oily. low carbonation. While actually being too sweet, it never becomes too much. It has some interesting complexity which is hard to descibe.

Pours clear dark with quick disappearing white head. Malty aroma that smells quite roasty. Some fruits very far away... Quite poor. Taste is pretty much in line with the aroma, despite not being that bland. Clear roasty mouthfeel, yet a nice soft sweetish malty touch. Bit sugary, some chocolate, oaks, hints of spices and yeast, and a soft bitter ending. Slightly alcoholic as well, resulting in a bit warm aftertaste. Some far tones of roasty single malt whisky as well. Not bad. Quite full bodied, with a slight creamy mouthfeel. Bit too much carbonation to my likings. In general, this beer is far more loveable than the ít IJ Barley Wine, which comes closer to this BW than many (more sweet) others (e.g. De Molen Bommen &Granaten). Softer, less alcoholic and still it has that whisky-like feeling and flavor. Not bad, if you like the more roasty, less sweeter kind of Barley Wines. However, the aroma remains quite poor. Well, at least it doesnít smell as bad as the other.

Oxidizied, sherry like aroma. In the flavour, the sherry is there with a hint of caramel in the background. Balanced finish.

Heerlijk bier!

Bottle at Janoinen Lohi, Helsinki. Pours murky dark brown with a little white head - not a very tempting appearance. The aroma features an interesting mix of malty and yeasty elements: some caramel, plenty of nuts and bisquit, and a touch of dark fruitiness. Taste is also peculiar. It is medium sweet and fairly malty with caramel, nuts and dried fruits present. Earthy, leathery notes set this apart from other barley wines I have had. The palate is full bodied and a bit sticky with a moderate carbonation, not as flat as many other examples of this style. A Dutch take on the English barley wine style; original and quite interesting to drink. Completely different from American BWs, should be given different style categories.

Een bier met diepgang. Hout, gebrande mout, fruit. Lichte schuimkraag en donkerbruin van kleur. Aanrader.

Excelente barleywine. Tomada en Snifter. Espuma abundante y duradera. Aroma a caramelo. Buen cuerpo. Sabor a caramelo y algo de frutas. El alcohol queda muy bien enmascarado. Amargor final muy moderado pero apreciable. Una botella sabe a poco. Esencial saborearla a temperatura moderada.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers, consumed at home. Hazy purplish brown. Fair bit of carbonation but no head. Heavenly aroma of slivovice, caramel, malt. Sweet taste with a full alcohol hit. Very sweet. Not quite cloying, but not a hint of bitterness until the finish. Body is surprisingly thin and a bit oily. Canít feel the carbonation very well. Very enjoyable.
