4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jerohen (1775) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - AUG 9, 2002
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2010 Rating reflects aged sample, but a fresh one is also pretty damn good. Fresh: Red-brown clear appearance. Very full-bodied with long-lasting flavors. Excellent long bittersweet finish. I agree with jbrus about this one: this is underrated brew. Re-rate: Bottled, 0.3 liter, BB 04-2008, sampled 01-2010 (about 6 years old). Beer came gushing out after opening, unbelievable after all these years. Brown colored, tiny yeast particles, lasting beige head. Absolutely fantastic nose, extremely fruity, almost like a lambic, but also hoppy, reminiscent of Orval, wow. Initially sour flavor, which later on develops to be more sweet. Lasting sweet finish. I’d never thought that a beer could age in this way, it tastes like a fresh Orval with a hint of lambic. Brilliant!

330ml bottle at a tasting thanks to TaktikMtl
Aroma : Raisins, red fruits. Quite a lot of oxidisation.
Taste : Raisins, red fruits, still lots of oxiydisation. Finish is a tiny bit tart. Some notes of oak as well.
Overall : I suspect this was very old. Lots of oxidisation. Not very good.

Bottle @ home. Hazy reddish brown, large creamy lightly tanned head.
Aroma of fruits, yeast, citrus, caramel, faint liquorice and wine.
Flavour is somewhat sour with red fruit and citrus, some spices and a faint hint of caramel, wine and liquorice.
There’s a Belgian twist allright but Barleywine?
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JMFG (1582) - Florida, USA - APR 23, 2008
Bottle. Dark copper-brown color, super-thick rocky light tan head that almost goes over the glass. Slight funk on the aroma, along with grain, grapeskins and pepper. Taste has a pleasant funkiness balanced by some mild sweetness. Real grainy throughout and the alcohol never really is apparent. Reminded me a bit of La Roja.
