COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dubbed a barleywine style by the brewery, but with added complexity and a strong Belgian twist. A powerful, dark beer.

bottle, donated by pivnizub! Cloudy brown colour, large beige head. Full-bodied, very spicy (cinnamon, clove, coriander), also slightly fruity and with a touch of caramel and chocolate. Complex and very nice.

Bottle. Sticky caramel and quite yeasty. Quite a lot of alcohol showing, definitely on the yeasty side of things, perhaps a bit too much so.

Had this from bottle at the brewpub, Amsterdam, 27th Oct 2009 Pours hazy dark brown with an off-white filmy head. There are malts and hops in abundance on the nose and also in the mouth along with a nice chewiness, bit of banana and a very nice warmth from the alcohol. Soft in the mouth, good spiciness, powerful brew, but tasty stuff and the third very nice beer from this brewpub. A7 A4 F7 P5 Ov15 3.8

Skinnyviking (5472) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 5, 2007
Bottle. Very hith loff-white long lasting fluffy head. Hazy orange body. Aroma of sour berries with the addition of alcohol and hops. Not sour but acidic flavor dominated by alcohol, too dominated in fact, with little carbonation and a long aftertaste. "Not my cup of tea". Too much alcohol in aroma and flavor.

Cornfield (5239) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - NOV 30, 2005
Deep brown and full of swimmers, this has a creamy tan head with plenty o’ fine lacing. The aroma is sweet malt, yeast, raisins, and dark brown sugar. Creamy and slightly oily on the tongue, it’s got a flavor reflective of the nose except that a hint of the sturdy abv comes through. Very nice, if not exciting.

Somewhat hazy amber, offwhite head. Malty aroma with toffee, chocolate, vanilla, plum and cream. Creamy, milky flavor, vanilla, licorice notes. Quite mild finish and very pleasant.

Ernest (5113) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 20, 2001
UPDATED: NOV 14, 2005 Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel, nuts, milk chocolate), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with light notes of coriander, licorice, orange peel, toffee. Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Well-balanced if just a bit too sweet and just a little watery (keeping it from a 5 on mouthfeel). Lovely.
