Dark ruby- brown color with a medium beige head. Aroma is fruity with yeast and an odd (prune?) scent. Flavor starts with red grape, prune, black cherry followed by some peppery spicyness and a tongue tingling, lightly dry and tart finish. 9% ABV not apparent.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DavefromChicago (201) - Illinois, USA - NOV 2, 2002
Somewhat rustic brown ale, if you ask me. Musty, yeasty, perfumy aroma - but aromatics are not as strong as I’d like. Minimal head, smooth, medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Lots of sweet chocolatey, raisins and apricot. Lightly bitter, alcohol flavor noticeable. As with most dark Belgian-styles, you really need to let this warm from the fridge to get it all. Good, but something missing...

Huge head on an amber body. Musty. Caramelly/molasses. Vintagey-musty oxidation, but in a good way, with complexity (lots of things to get from this). Bottle bought at brewery.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (7285) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAR 17, 2007
Bottle... Saint Patrick’s Day 2007... Murky amber ale with a large, rocky, off-white head. Everlasting, creamy retention. Earthy, sweet nose provides notes of rawhide, brown sugar and wine with a whisper of acidity. The flavor has excellent balance. Sweet, but not cloying. Bitter, but not harsh. Acidic, but not tart. Medium to full-bodied with crisp (but not prickly) carbonation. Crisp, lightly bitter finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tiong (1002) - Espoo, FINLAND - DEC 2, 2011
330ml bottle from Cracked Kettle
Pours dark brown with a medium white head. Aroma has notes of alcohol, caramel, malts and spices. Taste is quite malty with notes of caramel, toffee, syrup and spices. Hints of herbs and raisins. Finish is quite smooth and warming with fruity notes. Quite well balanced barley wine/Belgian strong ale hybrid.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 konstifik (573) - SWEDEN - MAY 25, 2010
Bottle from the brewery. Amber brown with a dense, lacing head. Aroma is dominate by dried fruits and caramel. Medium sweet taste that is lacking any balancing bitterness, which makes it a bit cloying.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tmrobotix (17) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 30, 2011
Sweet malt, hints of caramel. Fresh hops, grass, floral, mainly citrus but still mild. Yeasty! Not as yeasty as other Belgian styles but still a fair amount of yeast, the yeast smell is stronger then the yeast taste though. Which is a good thing. A very distinc alcohol taste.
Color: Brown colour, like a dark bockbeer. Liquid is sparkling, lively bubbles. Frothy head which is brownish, dissapears quick.
medium sweetness, medium bitterness, ok.
medium body, thin feel, fizzy & lively carbonation. Very abrupt finish, not so dry as expected, the taste doesn’t hang in the mouth for very long. The lively carbonation adds to the beer pleasure. Sweet fizzles on tongeu :)
Overal: Quite good beer, the sweetness balances the yeast flavour out quite well it’s not a very complex beer though. Good as the ’last’ drink on a summer night.
