JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Sep 12, 2006 Fully hazy amber-brown, no head left. Nutcake, walnuts, British X-mas cake with yellow butter sauce. In style, it is. And a bit of solvent. Sweet taste with typical Christmas cake flavours, full of spices, preserved fruit, maraschino cherry, sucade and caramel. MF is its Achilles heel, way too aggressive, burning MF. But it IS a very good beer.
Tasted as Ijndejaarsbok ’00, so it had some aging. SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 8, 2006 Ijnde Jaars notched 9/04. Amber/brown/ruby topped by a centimeter of tan froth. Nose of cran-grape juice, herbs, earth, subtle roasted spices, airy yeast. Flavor adds rich malt base, toasty caramel, subtle ash?, lightly zesty yeast, more dark fruits, tree bark, more earth, and a dry, yeasty finish with hints of cocoa powder. Full, smooth palate is a little chewy. Great brew, great brewery. weeare138 (933), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2006 Thanks to dickinsonbeer for this...
Appears a hazy light gold with a small white head that slowly fades out. Lots of scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of cinnamon, sugar, ripe apples, light barnyard funk, and vanilla cream esters. Obvious brett presence is there, although I’m not sure it’s meant to be. By denying this as a bock and thinking of it as a saison, it’s better than par.
The taste is of the same aromas. Spiced apple in a sugary, candy mix. Mmmm, loving this non-"saison".
Mouthfeel is mildly tart, sweet, and dry.
Overall? Again, I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be this way but it’s damn good! Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Sep 8, 2006 Dark coppery colored, cloudy appearance with big yellow head. Aroma is basic Belgian: spices, fruits, sweetness, perfume, toffee and mild alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is rich with nice hoppy touch: spices, fruits, sweetness and some caramel. Aftertaste has mild alcohol with lasting sweetness and yeast. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2006 Poured a hazy orange amber color, with a large, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of light brett, farmhouse, apples, green grapes, and citrus fruits. Taste of light caramel, coriander, tangerine, other tropical fruits, toffee, light green apple, with some earthy yeast, and a touch of alcohol as well. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 21, 2006 Bottle.
Hazy orange coloured with a huge off white head.
Aroma of yeast, grass and leather.
Flavour of grass, yeast, leather and hops. kepano (239), Meudon, France Aug 21, 2006 Last in our second ’t IJ triptych was the terrific Turbock. Topped in a tuft of turgid white mousse the abyssal tangerine tone bathed in beautiful lace. Grassy scents of hay and asparagus typical of ’t IJ’s touch were articulated in conjunction with fresh pineapple, banana and mango. A warming winterly blend of chocolate and coriander quietly expresses the magnanimous attitude of this beer before it truly takes precedent on the palate. Dry, bitter coffee and chocolate flavors match the sweet spicy character induced by cinnamon, vanilla, pepper, coriander and nutmeg. Rich but quite refreshing and not out of place on a summer day. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 20, 2006 Bottle. Hazy orange colour with a small tan head. Yeasty, spicy, fruity aroma and a sweet fruity, light sugar taste. Medium body with a sweet finish.
