MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Feb 15, 2006 Updated: Mar 5, 2007Draught. Weak smokey, quite sour aroma. Cloudy amber colour, small white head. The sourness balances the maltiness very well. Very vinous flavour. Actually easily drinkable in spite of ABV. I wonder if it was intended to end up like this. 5 3 7 3 15
Bottle, 9% as Ijnde Jaars. 18 months past BB date. The aroma is creamy and fruity with a little sourness to it. Hazy red, brown colour, tiny floaties. Big off-white head, quite stable. The flavour is peppery and creamy, a little alcoholic with a good, slightly sweet, malt base. There is also an underlying sourness which might or might not not be intended, but in any case it does not hurt the flavour. The sourness gets a little citric, with citrus fruits and dried sweet fruits, raisin. Creamy mouthfeel. 6 4 7 4 17 oldstock23 (11), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Feb 11, 2006 33cl bottle. I don’t usually drink Dutch beer but if this was readily available I would have a few in the cellar. Very drinkable and smooth despite its high ABV. Spicey aroma. I was surprised by the bitterness that was preceded by a thick malty belgian brown-like quality. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Feb 10, 2006 Bottle from Utobeer, London. Hazy russet colour with lasting beige head. Vegetal aroma, boiled cabbage. Some malt in mouth, smooth, but more cabbage flavour. Not sure this should be like this. Odd William (181), Utrecht, Netherlands Feb 8, 2006 Spicy and malty are the terms that come to mind while drinking this beer. Not the best IJ I have had, never tried the Eindejaars but understood that the reason they renamed it is that the Eindejaars did not seel anymore in january and february. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Jan 20, 2006 Thanks John for sending and savad for making it possible to drink this beer. This beer will always have a special place in my heart, I can’t think of it without laughing my butt off ;-) Memories of Amsterdam at the brewpub with pivo and four friends arise and I see ourselfes eating Brokel and drinking loads of former Indejaars. Seeing pivo totally drunk just buying a crate of this wonderful beer and two totally drunk Americans in snowy Amsterdam trying to carry this crate through the streets. Those pics are the funniest ever.
Well enought blahblahed: Great light brown color. Medium big, leaving legs on the glass and long lasting head. Great candy sugar, yeasty and nutmeg nose. Chocolate, roasted malt, yeast and nutmeg taste with a nice peppery finish. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Jan 2, 2006 A Mes rate:
On tap at Lowlander. Sweet nose with candy floss and lots of pear. Sim thinks it reminds her of champagne. Cloudy amber appearance that is nothing overly special. More pear in the flavour but there is something acrid and really unpleasant in there. Shame because I would have found this rather more enjoyable if it wasnt for that. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 2, 2006 33cl bottle. Poured hazy brown with large browish head. Sweet malt dominated the nose, but some yeast was present in the nose too. Sweet malt flavor dominates. Fuirty with a bit of spice. Lingering slightly sour finish. Goes down easy. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Dec 20, 2005 33 cl bottle. Yeast in bottom. Dark amber colour with a rich head. Aroma of yeast, malt and spice. Very spicy flavour with notes of malt and caramel. Ends up with some sourness, bitterness and pumpkins taste finish
