thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 27, 2005 This bottled brew marked best before 11/05 poured a very large sized head of foamy fine to large sized light brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a thick lacing and a very hazy body due to its large quantity of suspended floating yeast. It was carbonated and thick in appearance with a nice nice dark brown yeast aroma. The mouth feel was vinous with a malty bite and a thick palate that smoothened in the finish. It had a very good nicely done brown malted vinous flavor that was well balanced. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Jun 25, 2005 Bottle. Poured a large ivory head, small-large sized bubbles, decent lacing, yeasty, and hazy. Malty, fruity aroma. Sweet, malty, caramel and vinuous flavor. Palate had a burnig sensation. Medium body. Opaque, burnished copper-brown with a decent off-white head that recedes to partial cover and ring with some sudsy lacing. Orange-grape flavour with plenty of tea-like tannins. Mild bitterness. Fruity sweetness is lasting on the tongue in the aftertaste. Medium-full body with prickly carbonation leaves you feeling somewhat gassy. Bottle sampled with MartinT, Olivier MTL and Rastacouere. Best Before was notched twice for month 09/10 and twice for year 03/04. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 13, 2005 The Lure: Chocolate-covered black grapes abound, linked by an added sweet hazelnut syrup perfume that just can’t come from malts. Oranges deepen the complexity, this is pretty enticing!
The Festivities: Evil oppressive yeast shows up unexpectedly and mars the able interplay of earthy caramel malts and that molasses/sweet syrup (either that or there is a lot of residual sugar in this). Light alcohol warming ensues, this lack of cohesion is a severe let down considering the inevitable attraction to the aroma.
Transcendence: In retrospect, a party spoiled still has its fun moments. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA May 12, 2005 Poured a hazy copper color. Aroma and flavor were sweet with some fruit, spice and floral notes. Alcohol aroma and flavor were noticed but balanced out. The flavor finished with some bitterness. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada May 9, 2005 Thanks to Clark for that one. Very cloudy copper hue wears a nice off-white over, lasting though diminishing from an initially enviable head. Very yeasty aroma comes out a bit syrupy (many fruits... pears dominate though), but the spices (thyme? Anise?) do contribute a lot to balancing it while not feeling artificial. Appealing woodspice and perfume make me want to push the experiment further if the rest was not spectacular. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated. Nicely drying out palate from the caramel like mouth entrance. It becomes a bit too much melon skin like, dry, warming and not particularly attracting. It has been quite a few T Ij now and I’d be curious to try a fresh sample as they always seem to fail to strike to excellence, yet are potent while not overdone. haukur (682), Reykjavik, Iceland May 5, 2005 yeast and spices in the aroma, nice looks, dark dark dark red. Taste is a bit malty and yeasty, bitter and sour at the same time, very well balanced, this is a wonderful brew
