MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA May 5, 2005 Bottle: don’t ask me how to pronounce it. Poured a cloudy orange with a thin off white head. Malty aroma. Fruity, grapefruit, hoppy, mildly malty. A nice beer. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA May 5, 2005 Updated: Jul 14, 2005This was a very unusual beer and one that I really enjoyed and will probably be buying again. The body is a cloudy amber with an ok head. The aroma is heavily fruity and floral. There’s grapefruit flesh minus the bitterness or sourness. Supporting that are sweet, fresh grapes like scuppernongs. A spicy, floral perfume mingles with the cookie dough base of the aroma. It’s just an awesome Belgian strong. Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark Apr 25, 2005 Bottle. Red-brown with large off-white head, nice lace. Over-ripe fruit, estery, liqourice, medicine, pepper. Different. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Apr 24, 2005 33 cL bottle, chalice, bottled 9/04. Tall, creamy, off-white head diminishes somewhat quickly. Hue is a murky amber to brown. Brown sugar, nutty and caramle malts are dominant. Floral hops in the background. Doughy yeast. Esters of peaches, plums, bananas, alcohol...something sort of spicy, cinammon, corriander? Wonderfully complex and pleasant aroma. Heavily sweet, moderately acidic flavor becomes a moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter finish. Sweetness is less complex, and more dull, in the flavor. There’s a decent tasting oxidation on the back end. Medium full body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Alcohol is present but very subtle. The bottom line is: paradepaardje, you say? Well, it’s actually not my favorite so far! (Check out the Natte) But it’s still pretty damn good! smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA Apr 10, 2005 Bottle - malty, yeasty. Mildy fruity aroma. Deep amber body with a tightly-bubbled off-white head. Similar flavor to meet the aroma. Nice, soft palate. Good. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Mar 29, 2005 I can’t pronounce this. Is it Tee-yee-yeendeh-ya-ahrs?? September 2004 bottle drunk 3/28/05. Pours with tons of light-yellow, cream colored head, with tons of lacing and plentiful retention. Body is an opaque (highly unfiltered) deep caramel mixed with deep-auburn, with some slight dark violet tinges. Ultra-small bubbles rise up through the beer. First, and many subsequent, whiff is blackberries, currants, currant skins and light S’mores (yes that’s really what I smelled, almost a chocolate-caramel mix with a bit of cookie sweetness). Very unique aroma, quite full and lasting. Flavor starts with light caramel malt flavors, maybe caravienne and/or dark candi sugar. Notes of tart blackberries come through quickly and there is a touch of wateriness on the end. Medium-full body, with a very soft carbonation, that allows for a smooth, unbroken palate experience. The more I drink, I’m getting some slight funk/carrots. Could it be Special B malt? Seems so. Light earthiness on the finish, with some light hops flavor and a touch of drying alcohol. The earthiness, hops and alcohol combine to make it just a bit too drying/astringent on the finish, but it’s only a minor flaw. The aroma and complex flavors and immediately perceived maltiness are fantastic. I loved it and will be buying more. Brouwerij ’t IJ is now 3/3 in my book. I wonder if they can keep it up! Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA Mar 11, 2005 Pours a hazy golden/amber hue with a nice light head. Aroams of spice, caramel, and a lttle nutty Flavors of the same with a nice oaky finish and a flavor that lingers. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Mar 7, 2005 clear amber-brown colour, little foam, hazelnut in the nose, earthy, notes of caramel, sweet and full-bodied, notes of alcohol, long malty and nutty finish with a warming alcohol touch - lot of character
