Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Dec 4, 2004 Draught at Beer Circus, Croydon, London. Chesnut in colour. Big, malty beer with alcohol, fruit, spice and sugar/caramel. Really quite nice. Hunsell (400), Amsterdam, Netherlands Dec 2, 2004 Updated: Mar 29, 2006Excellent brew. Strong notes of plum and coriander, some orange/tangerine. Very IJ-ish, very good, and very suitable for dark winterevenings. Especially on tap at the IJ-brewery, this was a beauty!
Bottle IJndejaars 99/00. Opened 3/06. Pours clear dark reddish coloured beer with a small offwhite head. Lots of fruit in the nose, especially red fruit, berries. Intensely fruity sweet taste of red fruit, overripe apples, ends with raisins dipped in chocolat. A fresh version of IJndejaars on draught at the brewery is a treat, but it doesn’t compare to an aged bottled version, this was pure heaven. 9 5 10 5 19. Rating above = fresh version kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2004 Cloudy, hazy amber w/ a lasting light beige head. Oh that wonderful plum ester!!! Bready malt as well. A little floral perfumey alcohol, toffee, yeasty clove spicyness as well as pepper. Toffee becomes diacetyl as it warms. Well balanced w/ plum esters and yeasty clove. Toasty malt flavor w/ hints of chocolate into the finish & aftertaste. Finish is also well balanced. Dry but smooth m/f, highly carbonated w/ some alc. warmth. Another really good Belgian style from this Dutch brewery!!!!! Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Oct 30, 2004 Dark orange colored beer with a tall thin head. Yeast, nut, fruit and coriander in the aroma, very nice! Also yeast in the flavor with lots of fruit such as oranges and apricots and cheesy tones. Smooth. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Sep 12, 2004 Bottle: Gotta love these strange labels! Cloudy brown with a lively head from a massively carbonated brew. Spicey, peppery nose. Medium body is spicy and wit-like with lemon and orange zest hints. Hoppy finish is grassy and dry. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Sep 8, 2004 Golden amber with nice head. Appley sweet aroma, hint of spices. Flavor is sweet as well, with a touch of yeasty acidity to keep it at bay. Quite earthy, not sure if thats from the hops or not. I get tamarind as well. Pretty good effort here. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Sep 4, 2004 Bottle Date September 2002, Sampled August 2004.
Pours a clear amber-copper color that sits beneath a light tan head. This beer has a great aromatic nose, it is a mix of apples and spice notes made up of clove, ginger, orange, and a bit of a rich earthiness. The aroma, in fact, is quite tantalizing. The taste is lightly sweet and tightly tart, a good balance that makes me think of tamarind. There is an interesting level of yeasty spiciness here as well, I get notes of ginger, pepper, and bergamot. There is some earthy-mustiness here that adds to the complexity. There is a good solid fruitiness here, as well as the tamarind there are notes of apple and plum. There is a nice balance of sour and sweet, fruit and spice; this is quite nice. This is certainly the best of the three beers I have had so far from this brewery. jaymobrown (1343), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 30, 2004 pepper sandwich bread. Cinnamon, spice chewy. Sour cherry. A little funky. Bootstrap. OK.
