Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 23, 2009 Bottled, Lot 76. Poured medium orange with a creamy, sticky, well-retained cap of yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up some sour fruity notes along with toffee and pale malt sweetness.. interesting spicy yeast and floral notes around (chamomile?).. it grew on me. The flavor had some pale and fruity malts at the core, again with a significant floral and some sour accents around.. spicy, dry, somewhat oxidized (or stale) finish. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation on the palate.. a bit too active and a tad sharp at the end for me.. otherwise good stuff. NoiZe (1288), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands Jan 15, 2009 Tap @ ’t Arendsnest. Named IJnde Jaars. Brown colored brew. Dusty, spicy aroma. Flavor is chocolate, sweet and some spices. Nice. gmonroe10 (172), Netherlands Jan 5, 2009 Bottle (dated good until 2009- did they go back to ’t IJ Ijndejaarsbier name?). Pours a huge creamy head, dark brown. Nose of sweet yeast and coriander. Whoa. Taste is complex- sweet, spiced, and very dry- stays on the palate. Becoming quite spicy at the end. Nice from ’t IJ. martinboer (118), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jan 2, 2009 Bottle at home. Another excellent beer from A’dam’s top microbrewer. This is dark orange colored. A fruity and spicy start. Then turns sweet in the fade-out. Later the finish became increasingly spicy. Borresteijn (1349), Amstelveen, Netherlands Dec 19, 2008 Bottle at Café Gollem. IJndejaarsbier is back. Had Turbock a couple of times, and IJndejaars is the same beer, but has been lagered longer. Thus it tastes smoother than Turbock. Muddy brown colour, lots of yeast, creamy beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, malts, dark fruits. Flavour is malty sweet, dark fruits, plums, caramel, slightly sour, spicy yeast, some bitterness underneath. Medium bodied. Overall a good offering. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Sep 8, 2008 Bottle 33cl @ home. Light unclear medium to dark red amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, berry, moderate hoppy, moderate to light heavy yeasty. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration, and a light peppery finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (030708) cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Sep 5, 2008 bottle at home ... Hazy brown ... as its a gusher ... sweet yeast malts ... sweet toffeee malts ... little candie sugar.. little white grapes ... decent enough Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Sep 5, 2008 @ tasting session by Joes. A beer called IJndejaarsbier 1999/2000. So the beer was almost 8 years old. A hazy amber colored beer, with almost no head. The aroma has a little oxidation. It has notes of sherry/port with some notes of caramel. The taste of caramel with toffee. It has a burning aftertaste. For a beer of this age not bad.
