HumbertHumbert (77), Denver, Colorado, USA May 3, 2007 Ijnde Jaars - rich mahogany with a dense head. Great aroma of overripe banana and mango. Complex fruit and roast grain flavors including grilled pineapple, dates, and coffee with an excellent balance of sweet and bitter. The "bok" comes through with a bright coffee bitterness that melds well with the mild hops at the end. One of the better beers I’ve had in a while. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Apr 1, 2007 Dark copper with a huge head. The aroma is earthy, musty with notes of yeast and coriander. The same goes for the flavour, where I also find notes of roasted malt/caramel, candy sugar and fruit. The finish has a light citrussy bitterness and a bit of alcohol. Arayaga2 (933), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 17, 2007 Huge whipped cream head on a clear chestnut colored beer. Aroma of apples, yeast, and spices. Taste is slightly sour grapey and solidly grounded in a yeasty funk. Only a dry hint of alcohol in the finish. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Feb 24, 2007 Bottle (thanks argo0). Brown-amber, hazy, small beige head, lots of particulate matter. Aroma is cady sugar, sweet, spicy, yeasty. Flavor is similar, good and yeasty. Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 21, 2007 Drunk as IJ’nde Jaars (11/05). Burnt brown sugar color. Something in the aroma strikes me as unpleasant and I can’t quite put my finger on it…..Hmm, almost like rotting fruit? Digging deeper, it smells somewhat like a barleywine: apples, pears, apricots, biscuity, yeasty. First sip is sweet, silky, tannic, dry. Kind of like eating grape skins and seeds. Can’t really taste the alcohol, but at the same time, get the sense that this is powerful and that I won’t need Vicodin to get to sleep tonight. joss (3632), Garching b. München, Germany Feb 3, 2007 LCRBM2. Cloudy brown. Milk chocolate nose, light dusty. Quite chocolaty flavor, light minerals. Sparkly mouthfeel, light body. Fruity chocolate aftertaste. detroitsteel (231), Greater London, England Jan 26, 2007 Drunk on Tap at the Rake, SE1. Great beer - amber and cloudy, small head, but strong lacing. Sweet, full of berry fruits and jammy-ness. Very smooth finish, quiet light bodied, hard to believe it’s 9%. A very dangerously morish beer. iep (229), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jan 17, 2007 Dark red/amber, long lasting head & good lacing. Sweet spicy strong aroma, got ’t IJ stamped all over it. Very sweet stuff, almost like strawberry lemonade. Long & spicy finish. Smooth mouthfeel. As far as sweet & mutated over-the-top bocks go, this is the proverbial shit. Good stuff, like expected from ’t IJ.
