pivo (2535), Germany Apr 15, 2002 A full, spicy aroma rises up to greet you. Reminds one of Xmas a little. Dark amber color. A light malty taste finishes with a fresh hop bitterness. Creamy, full and well-balanced. Excellent beer from my favorite brewery. Go there if you can! JPDIPSO (4864), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Aug 10, 2002 A beer that greets you with a head right as you pop the cap. A true amber color with a a fulsome of fish food swimming throughout. Wonderful rose and fresh mowed hay aroma - I dread drinking this, as the aroma will be gone. Flavors are everywhere. Caramel, cashews, Tart apple, ginger, and mace (there’s more, but I’m overwhelmed) A bit sprity in mouthfeel, but the flavors make up for this. I picked this one up 80 miles away and will drive back this next week to pick up whatever they have left! xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 2, 2006 I must have a pre-2005 bottle which I picked up at Oliver’s in Albany. This could be nice...total serendipity. I’m spending a while looking at it because I sense it’s too cold cloming from a fridge. It has an almost purplish ruby brown color, it’s almost eclipsingly opaque actuall, almost devoid of color. It’s incrediby flavorful, much more than drinkable. The aroma really builds up your anticipation to drink it and plays a harmony with the flavor. It’s quite sour/bitter but a hint of sugar and originating grainyfruit ... you cannot help but love it, it is so primitive, basic, it tastes like sour earth, like I would have had all over my face a couple centuries ago. Or in a different part of the globe right now. This is the douple ipa barleywine of belgian strong ales. sour, bitte, as big and complex as anything others are doing in that genre, with almost a feel of lambic, the sour stuff, kriek maybe, having some properties of that. beer is a norwegian trainwreck snow, pine trees, berry bushes, excellent nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 14, 2007 Wow. Turbock is awesome. Thick and unfiltered assumably. Rich and creamy with a spicy, yeasty finish. Covers up the alcohol level incredibly well. Full bodied and doughy, Turbock is a delight to sip upon. 12oz bottle from Amsterdam. joet (1699), Fulton, California, USA Mar 6, 2002 Cloudy brown with substantial off white foam. A crisp, full aroma with estery bits of spice, like clove, fruit and something close to bubblegum. It’s odd and yeasty and all pleasant. Challenging -- no -- but different -- yes! It foams readily and is medium heavy effervescence in the glass -- there’s a lot of joy in there. The more it sits here, the more I think VENOM totally nailed this one. Huge thanks to Pivo and his cherished S.O. for getting this one around the world for me! dirkbreedveld (247), Netherlands Dec 31, 2003 this golden copper winter beer, is a succes story in my pub.
The fruity start develops slowly in a spicy dry aftertaste, and you don't taste the alcohol at first that much, but after a few !!
the year end with a bang beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA Apr 30, 2004 This is a great Belgian Strong Ale. Earthy, spicy, and some malt flavors. Finishes clean, crisp, and dry. Hunsell (400), Amsterdam, Netherlands Dec 2, 2004 Updated: Mar 29, 2006Excellent brew. Strong notes of plum and coriander, some orange/tangerine. Very IJ-ish, very good, and very suitable for dark winterevenings. Especially on tap at the IJ-brewery, this was a beauty!
Bottle IJndejaars 99/00. Opened 3/06. Pours clear dark reddish coloured beer with a small offwhite head. Lots of fruit in the nose, especially red fruit, berries. Intensely fruity sweet taste of red fruit, overripe apples, ends with raisins dipped in chocolat. A fresh version of IJndejaars on draught at the brewery is a treat, but it doesn’t compare to an aged bottled version, this was pure heaven. 9 5 10 5 19. Rating above = fresh version
