3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Glouglouburp (4558) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 23, 2010
In short: A fruity, caramelized and hoppy Belgian golden ale. Good beer
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed fresh the day of purchase in Amsterdam
The look: Cloudy dark golden body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Nose is yeasty with notes of caramel cake. Strong typical ‘t Ij yeasty character. I’ve had 6 or 7 of their beers and they are all very yeasty. However this one offers a lot more than a sweet yeast soup. Nice rich fruity caramel, refreshing fruits, cookies and a nice juicy hops presence with a fruity character. Smooth and velvety. A very good offering from what seems to be the most popular brewpub in Holland. Or is it the Netherlands? You know, the pot-smoking country.

Tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy deep amber and nice head- somewhat fizzy and soda like- diminishing after a while. Carameland toffee aroma light fruitiness, toast, belgian yeasty phenolics, burnt biscuit and sharp crystal malts with medium fruity esters. Flavor is earthy spicy, mineral, dried figs and dates, sugary sweetness, caramel, some mango and toasted malts, with some apricot preserve light fruity ester sweetness. Moslty smooth finish.

Hazy orange with a medium off white head. Aroma brett, malt and hoppy hints. Flavour quite a few hops, toasted malt, brett and pine. Finished bone dry and bitter. The more I drink from this brewery the more I like it.

Hoppy beer made for de Bierkoning. Beers from het IJ sometimes can be very gassy, and so is this, exploded out of the bottle almost. Koriander is a nice touch
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Christian (8034) - Odense, DENMARK - FEB 26, 2010
Hazy amber with a lasting off-white head. Dusty and earthy aroma with grapefruit, clearly not-on-purpose brett. Dry and funky flavour with a touch of cardboard. Acrid bitter finish
