COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first beer to come out of our vats, back in 1985, making it the classic beer of Brouwerij ‘t IJ. It is a ‘tripel’, the category reserved for the stronger, blonde beers in Belgian tradition. Zatte more than lives up to expectations in this respect. It is a full-bodied, golden beer with a scent of fresh fruit mingled here and there with a hint of grain. The flavour is slightly sweet, ending with a fine, dry aftertaste. A delicious beer that can be enjoyed in all seasons.

33cl bottle Appearance: A hazy orange beer with a medium to small but persistent white head, that leaves some lacing.. Aroma: caramel malts, grass, Belgian yeast citrus, spices Taste is sweet and a bit boozy but in a very nice way combined with it’s fruityness (Apricot, Citrus) with a hint of grain, before it finishes with a dry spicey finish. Fullbody, creamy mouthfeel, ( Which is a bit un triple like, but very nice.) Good twist on the mouthfeel, while a bit odd does work very well. Nice Triple, with a fuller body then you normally find.

Had this beer numerous times, as well from draft, as from the bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a stable thick and enduring white head. Yeasty aroma with some grass, citrus, bits of spices, bits of malts, slightly hoppy as well. Taste is much in line with the aroma, yet it gets enhanced after a few sips. The second or third sip often tastes much, much better than the first one, since it looks that the Zatte needs some time ’to grow’. It begins quite boozy, but that is just a short kick of the present alcohol that you tend not to feel in the remainder. Afterwards, it enhances more and more and you get a quite soft feeling of the yeasty, bit bready, fruity, sweetish and (interesting) spicy notes in it. Bit bitter in the aftertaste, but it is the soft sweetness that lingers long underneath this lovely hoppy kick. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel... It comes close to a Weizen if you ask me. Especially, while looking at the color, the body and it’s drinkability it has... Slight banana touch in the taste as well, which makes you think this is quite an odd tripel... Definitely a nice brew though, yet it is justified to ask the question whether this is a true abbey tripel, since it has some fairly soft notes in it. Yet, its still an 8% one. Oomph...

On draught at Apex. Deep full golden color. Aroma is caramel, honey, and grassy hops. Taste is similar to aroma, with the bitterness from the hops matching well with the sweetness. A well-balanced tripel.
