The first beer to come out of our vats, back in 1985, making it the classic beer of Brouwerij ‘t IJ. It is a ‘tripel’, the category reserved for the stronger, blonde beers in Belgian tradition. Zatte more than lives up to expectations in this respect. It is a full-bodied, golden beer with a scent of fresh fruit mingled here and there with a hint of grain. The flavour is slightly sweet, ending with a fine, dry aftertaste. A delicious beer that can be enjoyed in all seasons.

33cl bottle @ home. Hazy golden color, stronger white head, black sediment on the bottom and more haziness. Aroma sour fruity and slight alcohol in the nose, then banana, slight caramel, yeast, cereal, slightly earthy. Taste light sweetness, medium bitterness, a drop of sourness, and also slightly salty and umami, so quite complex. Closer to the bottom gives more bitterness, probably caused by the sedimented yeast, but the alcohol is well covered which is unexpected according to its smell. It has a full body, sticky texture, average carbonation, average bitter finish. Not too exciting but definitely a fine tripel.

Botella de 33 cl en el lupulo. Septiembre de 2013. Una triple belga versión holandesa. Color bastante turbio algo oscuro con bastante espuma blanca. Buena alternativa al mundo belga. Sus 8 vol la hacen también muy interesante.

Bottle 33cl, a cloudy amber orange beer with good head. Nose is on orange and yeast. Aroma is on agrumes, nice malty body with spices like cinnamon and licorice, light grapefruit, relative sweet, red fruit notes, some over riped orange touch, ok.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2014 Smells watery, sweet and like honey. Looks foggy, light golden, but not ?full?. A small amount of foam. Tastes weird, like a combination of sweetness and sourness. Medium carbonation. Too bad it?s also a bit watery and has a too low viscosity. Drank again with Thijs during the tasting 24-05-2014. Rated slightly higher. Liked the balance taste.
