3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 RickKempen (19) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - AUG 22, 2010
On tap @ the brewery. The spicyness is what you want in a triple and I rather like the grassy notes of the yeast. At 8% ABV a pretty stiff drink but deceptively easy-going. Actually, pretty good!

Bottle @ home. Slight hazy orange pour, medium off white head.
Aroma of light brett, citrus, spices and fruit, hmm, is the brett supposed to be in there? Flavour is (poperingse) hop, some spices, citrus, fruits and some brett again.
The brett actually does the beer good.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KyotoLefty (3480) - Kyoto, JAPAN - AUG 19, 2010
Draught at the brewery. Slightly dark gold. Aroma of honey, lemon, grains. Sweet lemon-orange flavor, with honey, cereals, low hopping. Very fruity, quite sweet and spicy. Rich, thick, smooth, with a tangy edge too.

Bottled, 330ml at Cafe D’Engel, Delft. Cloudy orange amber with white head. There seema a bit of a theme to t Ij beers, some spiciness with orange peel flavour and a yeasty wheaty note. Enjoyed in the sunny square though.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Vaiz (1847) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - JUL 24, 2010
Bottle at home. Clear golden pour, very thick solid foamy and creamy white head that leaves huge amounts of lacing. Aroma is typical ’t IJ, spicy with a slightly rough chemical touch. Nice though. Some alcohol as well and some sweet malts. Flavor is quite sweet and malty, with a rough edge again and some yeasty bits. Very lively carbonation and a bubbly texture.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Glouglouburp (4558) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 23, 2010
In short: A messy, yeasty, very sweet doughy blonde beer of some kind
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a medium white head
In long: The nose is overly yeasty, sweet and floral. Taste is overly sweet, overly yeasty, a banana cake, a lot of flowers, a lot of coriander, more yeast. Creamy doughy body. Nourishing to say the least, but nourishing the wrong way. Strong unfermented wort sensation. A bit gross. Was this a bad batch? By far my least favorite of the 7 t IJ I had in Amsterdam (4 on tap + 3 bottles). I can’t believe that this mess is such a popular beer in Amsterdam. If the average Dutch thinks this is an exemplary Tripel then they don’t know the first thing about beer. But I won’t tell them because the average Dutch is also 6’2”.
