Bottle: Cloudy golden, thick white head. Aroma is funky, a bit spicy poo-ish, typical to IJ yeast, some sweetness, fruity aroma’s. Taste is fruity, a little sour, really smooth. On tap @ IJ brouwerij: Looks somewhat darker, small white head. Smells a bit less poo-ish. Taste is more sour and sweeter, more out of balance. Nevertheless, a good tripel.

a solid sheet of froth covers this cloudy brown concoction as a fruity yet sour aroma lifts from the glass and speaks of chewy apricot...flavors glow of malty colors..ripe apricot colors the dark complexities..dark fruits i say!..dried apricot, orange peel, and evilness..some bitterness makes an appearance, but in a fruitful way..a colorful experience. oh yes.
4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 crossovert (2543) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 7, 2011
12 oz bottle. date is 3/06 not sure what that means i don’t think it could mean its a 5 year old brew though, it was out of the fridge at the store.
It pours a deep god with a slight bit of hase, the head is big, foamy, and white and recedes quickly, then slowly, leaving only spots of lacing.
The smell is awesome. Think if someone dropped a banana in a glass of Orval. It has a bright citrusy funk alongside ripe banana. There is some earth and spiciness and a hint of grain as well. hint of strawberry.
The taste doesn’t evoke as much funk. It is fruity, slightly musty, slightly earthy, with a dryness like Orval. It has a nice fruity tang, some slight alcohol, and some grain.
Holy fuck, is this orval junior or what? Caught me off guard.
