3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maeib (6398) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - JUN 16, 2004
Bottled. A hazy amber coloured beer with anice white head and good lacing. The aroma is sweet and spicy with hints of grapefruit. The taste is drier than expected with some spiciness. Although the beer is pleasant enough the finish is quite short and I get the impression there is still a bit of ’finding its feet’ about this beer.

Consumed at ’t IJ, Amsterdam, May 2006 Cloudy saturated orange color, perfectly presented white head. Punchy, sharp hop note, leafy even, bbut too sweet, as is expected in Holland I have learned. Excellent sharp alcohol and yeast nose, mildly grassy as well. Good tripel, with solid sharpness, but too much sugar.

Fluffy floral fragrances frolicking with fickle dry green hops...Heathery herb handsomeness hugging hypnotized peaches and assorted pale fruit...An airy agreeableness achieving adventurous accompaniment...

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Cletus (6025) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 3, 2008
Bottle courtesy of sonah. Pours amber with a nice white head. Smells of sweet malt, sugar, citrus, some tarte undertones. Tastes of dry malt with some nice orange undertones, pepper, apples, lots of malt character. Mouthfeel is thick and full bodied. Finish yields some hints of straw and hay. I really enjoy this one.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2008 330ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)
Opens with a slowly moving foam snake. Rich orange, hazy, healthy tight head. More yeast darkens it significantly, and makes it basically turbid. Salty sour aroma, almost sweaty and crotchy. Initial taste has that too, but decent malty body too. Sweet and slightly spicy, but dominated by the crotch that builds up as it warms. Plenty of hops in the finish too - hallertau or similar detected, I’m sure. More yeast softens the aroma, making it less crotchy, and likewise the taste. Still a little acidic in the finish. I’m not sure this beer knows what it wants to be, it’s not an abbey tripel with the sourness we had, more like an ubersaison - spoilt bottle?
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rastacouere (5900) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 12, 2004
Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil. Hazy golden. Light white head. Weird citrus aroma, phenolic. Yeast component gives an odd fruity/creamy profile that reminds me of cat litter, but to be polite, I’ll say kaffir lime and zest. Palate is very fruity, citrusy with notes of mango and peach. Mostly sweet (powder sugar), but also lightly tart (lime). Rather silky body, medium in size, feeling ample. Once again an odd beer from T IJ which positions itself middle of the range among my tripels thanks to originality and an attractive apperance and mouthfeel.
