3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 bhensonb (7131) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 3, 2008
Bottle at ‘t Arendsnest. Hazy dirty gold color with a small white head. Smells like a tripel with a touch of citrus. Very smooth. Very creamy. Very good mouthfeel. Flavor is lightly bitter, with a citrus peel hint, over pale malt. Finishes clean and bitter. Nice ongoing flavor of fruity and/or herbal hop.

Draught at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Hazy golden, minimal head. Yeasty grassy nose. Medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Dryish with some citrus and the evident yeasty ’t IJ house character. Still it’s balanced and suprisingly drinkable for it’s size. An invidualtistic, very likable beer.

Another interesting trippel that I picked up during my travels. Slightly sweet, but not over the top or cloying. Cookie dough maltiness with some orage jamminess, thick sticky mouthfeel. Finishes dry, but has a wonderful lingering finish, like a dry sauvingon blanc.

Pours a hazy rich gold color that is topped by a fluffy cream-tan colored head. I get soft aromas of tropical fruit, oranges, pepper, and a faint mustiness. Overall the aroma is fairly weak though. The taste is lightly sweet up front and the finish is definitely interesting: I get a certain astringency and a mustiness. There are also notes of lemon, orange, pear and lots of spice notes in the finish. This is a very interesting beer, the after taste is chock-full of subtle spice notes that really grab my attention.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dixen (1465) - Flagstaff, Arizona, USA - AUG 3, 2004
Bottle @ Ølbaren, Copenhagen. Very interesting aroma, fruity, has a sour tangy edge, some pineapple, spicyness. Pours golden to straw yellow, hazy, with a nice medium white head. Flavor is filled with bretts, has that sour edge but its also farily light and very drinkable. Refinds me abit of Orval. Very interesting beer.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (5885) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 31, 2005
The initial taste was a nice sweetness and modest carbonation, but taste was lesser so and dry aftertaste. Foam white head on cloudy yellow-brown . Nice Belgian abbey aroma. Soft creamy mouthfeel. 8% alcohol, its there. One of Holland’s best.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beerlando (3276) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JUN 19, 2008
Pours a very lightly hazy medium golden color. A frothy, off-white head shows good retention, settling slowly to a 2mm blanket that sticks. Sticky, splotchy lacing remains on the glass. Aromas are quite funky, dry, and laden with brett. Notes of light candy sugar, light fruity esters (banana maybe), bready yeast, and mild floral hop notes make for a very nice blend. Peppery notes emerge from the yeast, lending a welcomed spiciness. Flavors continue along those lines, with the sweetness of a candied pale malt base being countered by the spicy yeast and dry, musty brett. Very much in the mold of a Jolly Pumpkin in terms of yeast profile, though perhaps less dry and more peppery. Medium-plus bodied and softly carbonated, this one is quite drinkable, but lacking in substance for an 8% beer. Tails off at the finish, turning a little flat in flavor and palate. This is pretty good overall, and just a few tweaks short of brilliant.
