3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2005 Art of Beer Festival 2004: Murky brown/orange color with a frothy head. Brown sugar and plums in the aroma, full and lively body. Starts and ends fairly sweet. 12/05: Having it again I feel the same way, it is a bit too sweet.

Bottle from Rich O's, New Albany, IN: Poured copper colored with a big creamy beige head. Big yeast aroma and mild lemon. Medium bodied. Yeasty flavor with some citrus fruit notes and malt. A well rounded brew that goes down smooth. Packs a punch.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep copper color. Low carbonation, but creamy head. Fruity aroma. Rich flavor but noticeable alcohol. Hard to hide that 12%!

Light brown with a smaller head, nice unique aromatics that remind me of curry and ...dammit, water chestnuts. Smooth and sweet upfront, with some very unique flavor development that is well balanced on the huge frame ("shoulders") that this beer doth posess. Everything from Galangal to green tea seems to be in here, though the flavors are subtle and fold in nicely. G-O-O-D.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cloudy amber color. Strong malt aroma, Barley Wine style. Strong mouthfeel, sweet in the front, strong character: a lot of malt, caramel, light liquorice, hop, some spices. Ends very bitter and quite long. Very well brewed, quite hiding the alcohol, incredible strong flavor.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Murky red brown color. Nice subdued fruity raisin nose. Big fruity wine like flavor. This one would do well in aging. A nice and interesting brew.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ruddy orange with dry yeasties. Dense light caramel foam. Delicate aroma of cocoa, broth, noble hops, earth, crystallized sugar, and caramel. Hints of chalky yeast, chamomile, must, woody malts, dried apricot, and rubbery alcohol. Fluffy, spongy carbonation. First sip yields some acidity, but it’s somewhat curtailed by the earthy hops and caramel. Slightly zingy and earthy throughout, with a dab of apple stem and coarse alcohol. Very sweet and grainy. Surfacing notes of plum and rubber topped off by a briskly alcoholic, musty malt conclusion. Phenolic, apple-ish belches. The lemon balm and valerian are hardly noticeable. Overall, the alcohol, sweetness, and acidity are overbearing at times, but the woody, earthy malts and luscious.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The nose is quite good: apple rum with some light bubblegum. Really dark yeast flavors bounding across the high alcohol. Sweet and full mouthfeel with a good cloying sweet finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nose of musty yeast, strange exotic dark fruits, orange liquor, and caramel. Big, thick mouthfeel, lively carbonation is still present, superior smoothness (lemon balm?) that is very enjoyable. Malts a bit roasty and sweet. Orange liquor taste in there as well , Alcohol is firey at the finish. Very different, indeed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Babbler influenced Lambic!!!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark orange color. Similar to what I would expect concentrated juice of blood oranges to look like. The thin ring around the glass had to suffice for a head. The aroma really took a while to come out. Mostly alcoholic, with some sweet fruit becoming apparent. Apple, pear, cherry, raisin and plum all soaked in grain alcohol. Starts fruity sweet, strong alcohol is present throughout, and finished with a decent hop kick. A decent beer, but not something I could drink very often.
