brewandbbq (226), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 15, 2008 Stubby bottle with the new label, no bottle date.
Pours dark copper and clear, with a one inch head of off-white.
Retention is moderate and theres a decent amount of continual lacework throughout.
Aromatics lead off with fruit-laden booze, raisins, spice, and a hint of oak.
Tangerines drizzeled with caramel, vanilla-steeped rum, coriander, white pepper, and cedar.
Some earthy, slightly musty notes step forward as the brew warms.
Medium bodied, chewy, and creamy. Fullish mouthfeel without being thick, thanks to a higher carbonation level.
Sweet malt, rum-soaked raisins, and citrus fruit start the pallet. Warming spice and lingering alcohol rise up, as well as some vanilla and oak.
Some faint grape jam pulls through with brown sugar residuals.
Finishes with lingering alcohol warmth, a peppery spicyness, and woodsy bark.
Plenty going on here, and the nose takes the cake. Quite boozy in general with plenty of spice and fruit.
kiefdog (421), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 1, 2008 33cl bottle from Downtown Produce (Melbourne, FL). Pours a dark leather milk chocolate brown with a thin off-white tannish head. Some lacing present. Aroma is roasted sweet malt with dark ripe fruit, candy sugar, and some phenol notes. Flavor is also of dark ripe fruit, dark candy sugar, molasses, maple syrup, toffee. Mouthfeel is syrupy with a sweet lingering phenol finish. TURDFERGUSON (1136), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle, shared by durhambeer. Thanks Bob! Nose was apple cider, cherries, smoke, oak, sherry/rum. Flavor has some pronounced belgian fruit/spice yeast characters, more oak, apples, tobacco, overripe fruit. durhambeer (423), Durham, USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle with different label/bottle than that shown. Also said 11% on label, I think. This was interesting. Hazy light brown pour. Very strong and intense -- notes of tobacco, cherries; quite smoky, dusty, and peaty. Are those roasted hazelnuts I’m tasting? I really enjoyed this unique brew. amish_caravan (210), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 20, 2008 scent is of fresh fruit. taste is very smooth with fruit tones. finish is pretty smooth too. not a bad brew. IlanMan (534), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pour is dark golden/amber with little to no head. Aroma is strong of fruit, alcohol, and malt. Flavor is wow, in your face alcohol with a lot of malt and toffee notes. I got a bit of yeast and belgian spice as well. Pretty good but dang strong. Finish is more alcohol.
