On tap at Max’s Belgian Fest 08, poured a hazy brown color, not nearly as dark as you’d expect from a stout. Carmel nut and sugar flavors. Complex flavor, really enjoyed .

Sampled draught at ZBF 2008. Muddy dark brown. Bubbly off-white head. Some nutty, cereal aroma. Spicy flavour with some chocolate and cookie-crumbs. Light body for an impstout and a bit too much alco-feel.

On tap at ZBF 08. Not much of an Impy stout. Decent malts, not that great. Downed it quickly as needed to have Drakes Denogg - y - thingy. It’s an ok, drinkable dark beer, but a bit dull.

cloudy dark brown almost black with a huge foamy tan head. caramel, banana, nuts, brown sugar aroma. flavor is burnt caramel, smoke, nuts, grassy hoppiness. very sweet but also very bitter. unique flavor. not a stout to me but it tastes good anyway.

Cloudy red/amber with a small white head. The nose is sweet and malty with toffee, dark fruits and light roast. The flavor is moderately sweet with raisins, plums, pears, toffee and herbs. Medium/full body is round with moderate carbonation and a rough finish.

Draught at ZBF 2008, Sint-Niklaas, Belgium
Hazy/muddy brown body. Lightly brown head. Aroma of malts (mainly caramel, but also some stronger ones). Lightly bitter, hoppy flavour. Nicely balanced and nice complexity. But why is this called an imperial stout, it’s full of hops! A nice beer after all.

A Mes rate: Draught at Zythos.
Dirty dark brown colour. Dominating character of gravy and chocolate. Thick in the mouth. Not worthy of an imperial stout moniker.

Draught at Zythos Beer Festival 2008. Cloudy brown, low beige head. Fruity, creamy chocolate, caramel, bisquits, and alcohol. Medium bodied and smooth. Quite sweet and one-dimensional.

ZBF 2008: Cloudy dark chestnut brown with no head. Imperial Stout? Muddy aroma of malts, farm, and a hint of mustard seed. Some chocolate comes in under the rest. Upon tasting I conjure up images of some far off land making a primative fermented drink with many different types of tea and tobacco leaves, and bitter herbs. A touch of tartness that seems to have no discernible source. There is some burnt caramel that almost gives a roast character but doesn’t quite get there. Certainly an interesting beer.. but imperial stout?
