Draft at Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest. Dark brown to near black body. Aroma is very yeasty and floral with some cocoa notes. Taste is also flowery and yeasty with cocoa, powdery chocolate, soft spice, light caramel and some herbal notes. Body is creamy with an odd herbal astringency. Almost medicinal, but not quite. That’s the only way I could describe it. Finishes with an almost aspirin like bitterness, more cocoa, yeast notes, herbs and flowers. I’d go with Foreign Stout over Imperial Stout here, but that’s just me.

Hazy dark amber, carbonation, big thick head. Roasted malts, caramel, yeasty, dried fruits, hop finish. Very complex, and I agree with Caesar on what to call it. I was very surprised to see what it looked like when I poured it, as was I when I tasted it.

Bottled, bought in Belgium. Hazy dark brown color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, rye, some licorice, hint of coffee. Taste of some dried fruit, coffee and caramel, some rye, bit too yeasty. I would call it a belgian imperial stout, and it seems to be quite difficult to combine these styles. More a sweet stout maybe.

Pours mahogany into a snifter. Off-white head recedes to skim surface. Mild chocolate aromas. Chalky chocolate and dried fruits.

Bottle on 07/12/2008. Clear very dark amber body with ruby hints and a large fluffy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, molassas, rum soaked fruit, and caramel. Smoke and roasted malt flavor, more chocolate, light rum soaked fruit, some coffee and light molassas. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a fluffy light tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, yeast, fruitness, figs, and notes of chocolate. Sweet roasted flavor with raisins, fruit, figs, yeast and a touch of chocolate with a hint of smoke.
