An amber/red colored beer, with a medium beige head. It disappears quickly. The aroma is a little sour, with brown sugar, caramel and honey. The taste is a little sweet of brown sugar, a little sour, dry and a bit of alcohol. For a beer of 9% it hasn’t a full taste. Aftertaste is dry.

Flaske.

Bottle purchased at Gordon’s in New London, CT. Pours dark caramel, thin off white lacing. Now this bottle had a lot of shelf dirt on it, so that could be a good thing or a bad thing, me thinks.

Aroma is malty and spicy with caramel and dried fruits. Flavor is similar and not as sweet. Has some metal and organic offness to it. Perhaps it has to do with the age. I couldn’t find a date on the bottle. Anyhoo, you may want to avoid this one if you heart dubbels.

Bottled. Poured deeper garnet with a well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweeter honey, dark fruits, and spices.. there was an overriding air of sourness that I don’t believe was the intention, but it wasn’t bad. The flavor also had that sourness that unfortunately muted some of the underlying goodness.. caramel, darker fruits, and honey down there with a bit of cardamom and ginger.. finished with an odd contrast between the tasty maltage and the fruit skin tartness. Medium-bodied on the palate, again with the sourness getting in the way.. shame, too, because I really liked what was under there.

The color is dark amber with ok head. A strong taste I feel the alcohol. Goes good together with the sweetness to give a rich experience.

Light brown cloud color with thick white head. Yeasty bready aroma. Palate is light and carbonate. Yeasty flavor with a hint of citrus no particular flavor popping.

The thing I like about these beers is you can always tell what he is brewing with, the flavors are always present, the rest of the beer may be just okay, but you can always make out the extra added flavors. This has a rich sweet honey maltiness, and has that sweetness with the candi sugar and dates, along with some raisins and spices from the yeast lingering a bit with some clove. Decent, light and tame, but decent.

Bottle at t Brugse Beertje, Brugge, April 2008. Nice rich brown colour. A notably clean & dry dubbel. Touch of tobacco smoke and spice. Certainly not a rich, fruity dubbel - I got the honey but not the dates - but quite pleasant and tasty. Warming (but not burning) alcohol.
