Pours a hazy orange-brown with a lovely off-white head and minimal lacing and poor retention. Aroma is boozy, sweet dark fruit and light barnyard. Surprisingly smokey flavour hits you right off the sip, a bit of honey in the finish. Unusual! Heavily carbonated, moderately creamy body. A more savoury than sweet dubbel, for sure, and probably good with pulled pork or ham.

Bottle. A hazy, orange-brown beer with a small, creamy, beige topping. Dried fruits, a touch of oxidation, sugar and some alcohol in the aroma. The flavor is more on the sugary side, with the same dried fruits, oxidation and alcohol found in the aroma. Dryish, warming and sweetish mouthfeel, finishing sweet and fruity. A decent beer, but fails to get me excited. (090213)

33. cl bottle. [Trade with hopscotch and the Florida Crew, thanks buddy] Large creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Light cloudy amber that turns into very cloudy dark amber color. Fair display of lacework. Classic dubble; Nutty, toasted malty, dusty grain, yeasty, brown sugar, fruity, caramel notes. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor. Sweet malty nutty finish.

[33cl bottle] Hazy, dark amber colour with a big but not very persisting tanned foamy head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with strong spicy elements of mainly coriander and a restrained fruity note. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Toast-malty, quite spicy taste, rounded up with caramel and faint raisin-fruity notes. Strong malty and spicy finish with present alcohol. Likeable but not perfectly harmonic brew [11.I.09].

33cl bottle into goblet. Reddish amber body topped by small head that disappeared. Sweet malt aroma with a little spice and orange. Flavor is honey sweetness, spice and finishes with a drying herbal bitterness. Somewhat thin and watery and initially aggressive carbonation that settles down. Never would guess this is 9%. An odd duck for a dubbel.

Bottle purchased from Johns Grocery in Iowa City. Pour was a dark amber color with minimal carbonation. Aroma was very sweet, malty and sugary. Flavor was heavy in malty sweetness, although not too overbearing. Aftertaste was a little plum and then melted away. Very good!

Bottle at Brugs Beertje. Pours hazy ruddy brown with a solid off-white head. Spices, yeast and some fruit nose. Caramel and fruit flavours, ending on a surprisingly dry note. A bit hard on the tongue. Very drinkable and hides its strength well.
