steview (736), Oceanside, California, USA May 4, 2008 different label, yellow, has a scary dude face on it: little aroma; hazy brown body, small light tan head, some scattered lace; sweet flavor, but subdued by its own plain maltiness, or lack of hop character; good carbonation; decent brew.
EithCubes (1770), Indiana, USA Jul 30, 2008 Bottle. Spicy, slightly hot nose, big yeast with a dollop of honey and really thick, rich malt. Hazy dark amber pour with a luscious, lacing creamy head. Taste is (surprisingly, really) extremely dry and actually pretty bitter, honey on the side with rooty spice and some real earthy malt up front. Hint of ginger and orange peel, touch of toffee. Prickling throughout. Smisje house yeast, no sign of candi. Medium body, very dry, herbal aftertaste. A bit hard to finish, but gosh, they can turn out some good ones if you keep them away from the mustard seeds. Probably won’t have again, though. BoBoChamp (588), Gent, Belgium Jul 28, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex, balanced, cloudy, good head, nice brew Ober (255), Best, Netherlands Jul 28, 2008 An amber/red colored beer, with a medium beige head. It disappears quickly. The aroma is a little sour, with brown sugar, caramel and honey. The taste is a little sweet of brown sugar, a little sour, dry and a bit of alcohol. For a beer of 9% it hasn’t a full taste. Aftertaste is dry. Defreni (453), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 26, 2008 Flaske. Mørkebrun øl med et fint skum. Ikke så meget bundfald som i en del andre t smisje øl. Meget diskret duft, og faktisk også overraskende nedtonet smag i betragtning af 9%. En metalsmag i eftersmagen trækker en smule ned, men udmærket øl. zebracakes (966), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle purchased at Gordon’s in New London, CT. Pours dark caramel, thin off white lacing. Now this bottle had a lot of shelf dirt on it, so that could be a good thing or a bad thing, me thinks.
Aroma is malty and spicy with caramel and dried fruits. Flavor is similar and not as sweet. Has some metal and organic offness to it. Perhaps it has to do with the age. I couldn’t find a date on the bottle. Anyhoo, you may want to avoid this one if you heart dubbels.
