Thanks, Harold, for bringing this brew. Aroma is mainly spice, some brown sugar, light amounts of dark fruit, yeast. Pour is a murky brown with tons of yeast and a nice head. Flavor is toffee, light roast, brown sugar, spices, Belgian style yeast, and a touch of alcohol. Very different. Nice.

330ml bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki, courtesy of skullgeorge. Hazy dark amber almost brown color with off white to beige head. Aroma is yeasty light funky, spicy, citrusy fruity, caramel malty. Sweet and light bitter, lot of caramel - burnt sugar, fruity, light wineous. Medium oily body with soft to flat carbonation.

Appearance: It is a hazy murky iced tea brown color with a thin dirty-white head that fades instantly. As usual head retention is not something to hold against a beer that is 12%.
Aroma: There is a strong caramel scent along with dates. It has a very rich aroma to it, that completely consumes all olfactory senses. If aroma had a "mouthfeel" it would be syrupy.
Taste: It has quite a lot of flavor. At first there is this rich candy caramel flavor, then it is followed by this nutty pecan flavor, which has a biscuit aftertaste, and a popcorn-like ending. I like it.
Mouthfeel: Despite the collection of flavors and ABV of the beer, it comes across as a fairly medium bodied beer, and a lighter shade of medium to boot. It has a touch of effervescence which seems to further the lightness of the body. I would like to see a larger beer like this have more of a coating quality.
Overall: I didn’t pick up any coriander or grains of paradise, but the flavor qualities were still there to make this an interesting beer. It didn’t blow me away but it was a good beer. Try it if you like large Belgian beers, but you’re not missing anything if you can’t get it.

It pours a very hazy/cloudy dark honey colour, 1 finger head of foam with the usual Belgian quality re retention and lacing.
The smell is of dark fruits, black cherries amongst them?, yeasty, some light spiciness.
The taste is stronger than the nose but not as impressive to me. Dark pitted fruits, yeasty, orange peel bitterness, has some woody notes and light Port(more of that please), vanilla,..to me, a tad over complex and not everything comes together in total harmony.
Top end of medium bodied, medium carbo, very good mouthfeel.
So, in the end analysis, I reckon, despite what I said about the complexity above, this IS a very good brew.

Bottle@home with Erik. No head. Muddied. Very low carbonation. Dry fruity figs dates prune. Rather prominent heavy sweetness. The spices drown in the sweet flavours.

Pours a dull mahogany color with two fingers of aggressive white foam. Aromas of sweet date, burnt sugar, peppered yeast, clove and walnut. Palate follows with nice balance between sweet burnt sugar and date flavors with spiced bitter walnut and some lingering yeast esters.

Christmas beer from the former Regenboog brewery, a spiced barley wine mostly intended for export to the American market. Bronze coloured ale with a sweet main profile, honeyish, orange, liqueur, coriander, caramel, cookies, candied fruit, yeasty with a long dryish, warming alcohol finish in which the candied sweetness keeps cloying a bit as well. Nice sipper.

t Smisje Kerst pours a dark iced tea color with a thick white head that fades off quickly. It does leave some lace on the glass even without much of a head. The aroma has sweet ripe fruit notes with bready malts and earthy yeast. The medium body is full of malts, yeast and coriander. Sweet and sour fruit notes pop out then fade off into a light bitter hops finish. Over all it’s a very good, but average, Belgian ale.

de smaken zijn redelijk zoet (kandijsuiker), matig bitter, zeer sterk (alcoholisch) in de mond, zacht, matig fruitig (donker fruit), sterk gemout (caramouten), redelijk kruidig (peper, zoethout, kardemom, iets lichts van sinaasappelschil), medium body, glad van textuur, afdonk zoetig en redelijk alcoholisch

Yeast laden aroma of candied dark fruits and brown sugar. Murky tan color. Very sweet taste, not really getting the spice here. Tart almost, but not quite there. Prickly like cola while cloying like a malt heavy strong beer should be. Feels about 9%, so it’s cooled down relatively speaking. I’m guessing two or three years on the bottle. Another powerful Belgian, not quite brune but not blonde either.
