From the bottle pours a lightly hazy, deep orange-amber color with a moderate, slowly fleeting head of cream colored foam. A soapy wash mostly rejoins the body, leaving minimal micro-spotting behind. The aroma shows an odd sweet-tart malt base, with slightly bronzed, blonde candy sugar being accompanied by an acidic, medicinal sort of spice note that I can only attribute to the mustard seed. Hints of tumeric come to mind, as does abrasive anise and salty iodine. It’s sort of briny, in a way. The flavor is similarly structured, the mustard seed and various spices working against the sweet candy sugar, forming a briny, vinegary, acidic concoction that just doesn’t sit right with me. The body is substantial to the point of being lightly syrupy, with that odd acidity being intensified by the lively carbonation. This one reminds me of some of the briny Italian SHVs that are out these days, but that doesn’t seem to fit with the traditional Belgian candy sugar base. Weird, but not that good.

(33cl bottle) Hazy, golden colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet, delicately malty aroma with a distinctive sharp spicy note, almost iodinic…must be the mustard seed. Sweet and slightly sourish tart flavour, medium body with a moderate carbonation. Malt-accented and subtle fruity taste with present spicy elements; quite sourish and tart finish. Reminds me of an infected Whisky malt lager (22.06.09).

The aroma is a bit spicy and tart, but the appearance is almost perfect. Perfect bronze yellow clear brew with a nice carbonation and a beautiful yellow color (obviously influenced by the mustard seeds). The taste has a hint of mustard and spiciness that I cant put my hand on, but overall I enjoyed it. This is a little peculiar brew that tkes afew sips to get used to, but overall very enjoyable.

Mustard beer. Bitter. Taste of mustard. I will tell you this: the taste was not pleasant.

Location: 11.2 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 6/13/09

Aroma: Nose is totally dominated by the mustard to the point of being way too much
Appearance: Nice amberish color, a large frothy head
Flavor: Taste was also overly mustard with some belgian ale flavors
Palate: Decent palate, an alright mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Just didn’t work for me, too much mustard, if I hadn’t have split this one it probably would have been a drain pour. I wouldn’t suggest it, that is for sure! Give it ye ole pass unless you want to drink some liquid mustard...

bottle, pours hazy orange with a medium off white head. Heavy aroma of dried granny apple, apricot and yeast. Light malt and a sweet and sour fruity element that fades to a nice dry hop and what I think is the mustard seed. Actually quite nice, as most Regenboog beers are. Lots of complexity and enough going on to keep it interesting, yet very easy to drink.

Draught at TDR: Fresh aroma of slight apple and slight mustard. Poured brown in color with a small tan head that lasted throughout. Very hazy. Very sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly sour. Tastes of mustard seed, sour apples, spices, and slight fruit. Medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Slightly sour, slight mustard, and sour apple finish. A very strange beer. It grew on me.

On tap @ the Hopleaf. Average beer, worth trying for the novelty factor of a beer brewed w/ mustard, which lends it a most unusual bitterness. From the bar description: 90% pilsner malt, Reut Goldings, Challenger hops, crushed Torhout mustard seeds and dark and light candy sugars.
