frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jan 29, 2006 Pours a soft-hazed amber with a large/large-bubbled white head that is creamy and slow. Aroma is light, green and dusty held together with Band-Aids. Flavor/mouth is spice and sour, thin and buttery with an herbal tingle. Mustard is present not as "yellow" nor "ground" but as mustard greens. Antiseptic quality of the aroma keeps rearing. This is an odd beer that is perfectly suited for surreal situations.

fbennett (293), Lowell, Massachusetts, USA Jan 26, 2006 This beer pours a dark blonde actually similar in color to pumpkin with some yeast floating around in the bottom. It leaves a thin beige lace that is frothy and bubbly. The aroma is malted mustard, somewhat citrus in the nose, and a candy sugar smell in the background. The taste starts off on the palate tart and sweet, like a sweet tart, but more savory in terms of the mustard presence. Very malty I think to balance the acidic tang in the mustard but it is nice and smooth with a slight carbonation that refreshed the palate, only to give you one last bit of bitterness from a very minimal hop presence. A beer that is very unique, and I would def try again. I’d pair this beer with a grilled Deutchmacher Hotdog marinated in this brew with onions and grill it all.
HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 18, 2006 Bottle (330ml). Mustard beer. Why the hell not. Poured bright slightly cloudy amber-orange with a very small fizzy head, lots of bubbles. Aroma of yeast and malt, but mostly pungently floral/fruity - is this the mustard seed? If so, there’s an almost marigold funky bitterness to the scent - quite sulfurous - interesting but a little daunting. Taste is incredibly medicinal and sour/pungent herbal - almost made my eyes water - like bandaids with yeast and a little witbier flavour trying to compete - not pleasant; I’m sure this is what it’s supposed to taste like, but cripes, I’m never having it again. Very bitter/acidic mouthfeel, watery and quite carbonated, very hot and spicy. I didn’t like this, but I guess it hit the mark it was aiming at - not for me, anyway. (3 points for palate for having a lot going on). Not quite a drainpour, but beware .... update: by the end of this bottle I’m starting to dig it - like a peppery/funky bier de gard / sour. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jan 12, 2006 Had this a BJ’s Winter Ale Fest. Beer poured murky dark-gold color with a small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing head. The aroma is intriguing: moderately sweet with a malty note of caramel, moderately hoppy with apricot and flowers and curious with miscellaneous notes of prune, green apple, candy sugar and—I swear—baby powder. The flavor was moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic with an average-length, heavily sweet, lightly bitter finish. The palate was quite pleasing—one of those that lifts all of the other qualities onto a new level. The body was medium, the texture was velvety and the carbonation was crazy fizzy. I couldn’t detect any mustard seeds anywhere, but there may have been a touch of spicy heat in the finish, although it was too hard to determine that around all of the carbonation. I will revisit this one again for sure. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Dec 10, 2005 Pours with massive carbonation, but no head to show for it. Wow, this is really really fizzy. Slightly cloudy amber. Aroma is incredibly metallic, copper I think. Taste of lemon, orange, but spoiled. Sweet, unoriginal fruitiness. Finish is clean but lacking. Ug. tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2005 Cloudy gold color - light aroma of pepper and fruit. Flavor is sort of bland, with notes of yeast, pepper, lemon and some other fruits. None of the flavors really assert themselves here. Not terrible - just not very interesting. RAYBOY01 (1813), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 26, 2005 Tastes like an alcohol wipe smells. Strong spritzy carbonation...kind of a sour ale base with strange herbal, astringent, alcohol and mustard seed notes sprinkled around. Very weird, but not unpleasant experience. Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Nov 8, 2005 Updated: Nov 23, 2005Pickled fruit, wit aroma. Sweet, tart, yeasty, rich. Apricot and orange. Very sophisticated drinking. Don’t know how much mustard is in ther but I’d never have called it. Finish is tangy, sweet. Very enjoyable. Blind Tiger, HHR 4th trip.
