Bottle @ Beertje. Cloudy amber pour. Aroma is malty with a bit of honey and something indeterminate. Bitterness and sourness in ale form. Kandis. Bites the tongue. Slightly harsh. No trace of mustard. Well-balanced wih a nice malt/bitter finish, but I don’t really like this.

Bottle contains nearly a 1/4 inch of murky sediment at the bottom. Pours a deep golden body with abundant carbonation and a loose fizzy head that quickly vanished. Nose of biscuits, mustard, and grass. After sniffing this for a while, a burning sensation develops in the nasal muscosa from the "mustard gas". Finding this aroma in a beer would scare the crap out of me if I didn’t know that it contained mustard seed. Citrusy esters come through in the flavor and lead to some mild mustard spice. Phenols are prominent and slightly, but not overly, detracting. Solid Munich malt character helps tie the flavors together and make this distinct and enjoyable rather than funky and disjointed. However the aftertaste suggests lemon tea. Medium-light body, also with a tea-like quality. Uniqueness makes this hard to evaluate, but it is fun and interesting. Thanks Sean (igel) for the spontaneous beer donation.

330 ml bottle. My first mustard beer! Very lively and noisy carbonation, like a spritzy cider. Tall head quickly fading into nada. Color is murky and greyish orange. Prominent smell of mustard seeds, added with a dark and sweet fruitiness. Taste is sweet and acidic, and spicy (mustard comes to my mind) Rather unbalanced. Light to medium body. Spicy and light sour end.

On tap in the Belgian Room. Deep dark golden in color with a little off white head. Malty sweet and spicey aroma. Candi sugar notes. Malty and fruity spicey flavor. Orange and clove. Yeasty. Citrusy hoppy. Mild mustard taste. Tart. Finish is bitter. Nicely balanced. Enjoyable.

Well I’ll be damned, this beer actually smells like mustard - just when I thought I’d seen it all! The mustard spice is well integrated with a light phenolic note and a touch of yeasty apple fruitiness. Lightly hazed orange color with a thin tight layer of foam. What a strange flavor - a touch of the mustard seed and phenols quickly gives way to a clean tart acidity that is pretty nice, which in turn segues into an herbal, almost medicinal finish. Hard to get a handle on this beer. Whoa - I just unceremoniously poured the dregs into the glass, and discovered just how much yeast was in this sucker. It is now a heavily clouded orangey-brown color. A gray yeastiness takes charge in the nose. Mouthfeel becomes a tad creamier with the yeast, with a touch of astringency and orange peel in the finish. In the end, I kind of enjoyed this beer, and feel that the mustard seed ingredient was put to good use here, but at the same time I don’t think I’d drink alot of this.

Pours orange / amber with a fluffy off-white head. The aroma is sweet with spices and rich citrus along with spicy hops notes. Medium body with a whole lot of carbonation that is sharp, but not too forceful. The flavor starts with citrusy sweetness, an odd spiciness which is probably the mustard seed and funky yeast. The finish is tangy, spicy and clean. I’m not sure if there wasn’t mustard flavor in mine or if other tasted it from thinking there would be by reading the bottle. Either way, this beer came across as a nice interesting Belgium ale to me.

11.2 oz bottle - Pours murky light brown with a thin head. The aroma has yeast, malt, mustard, and a hint of citrus. The flavor is sweet and spicy with the mustard less than obvious. I just didn’t care for the combination of spices in this beer. It seemed like a fairly mediocre belgian ale with odd spices thrown in that don’t really work for me.
