BlackDonald (1039), North Carolina, USA Jul 27, 2008 This was absolutely fantabulous. Not extremely hop heavy, remains true to the style, a very nicely done American Barleywine. Rich and sweet on the palate without being cloying, brown sugar and honey notes, with some dark caramelized fruits, some candied fruit zest, but all remains in balance with the hops coming through giving some much needed bitterness. This is full bodied, but extremely well balanced and drinkable. Bradrcr (617), Renton, Washington, USA Apr 27, 2008 3/7/08 on draught at the brewpub. Aroma is malty-sweet with lots of caramel. Appearance is reddish brown with an incredibly well maintained light tan head (particularly for a barley wine). Flavor is rich with dark dried fruit and molasses; alcohol dos not come through, but is evident, which is more than I can say for the hops. Mouthfeel is full bopdied and slightly syrupy, with lots of warmth and a minor carb feel. Overall, a great example that is definitely more English than American in style, but brings out a lot of great portlike characteristics. BuckeyeBoy (1181), Boise, Idaho, USA May 19, 2007 On Tap at the brewpub pours out brown topped with a dark tan head. A nice malt and caramel sweet aroma. A nice thick drink. pretty good. Indiana_Red (1470), Boise, Idaho, USA May 11, 2007 On Tap at the brew pub. Cloudy deep redish brown. Creamy dense light brown head and fine persistant lacing. Dark malty aroma with notes of caramel and old barrels. Flavor is a strong balance of dark sweet malts and lots of bittering hops. Very thick palatte and soft carbonation. Nice big beer. jake65 (1274), Meridian, Idaho, USA Apr 25, 2007 Draft: Pours a rich mahoghany color with ruby tones. Small off-white head and light lacing. The nose is citrus and malt, the taste moves into a more roasted malt with dark fruits, citrus, and caramel. Very smooth, no alcohol feel at all. Just a smooth, warming affect. Very pleasant and drinkable barleywine.
