A huge, bold barley wine. Not for the weak, yet amazingly smooth. A great winter sipper.

Poured into a little(r) cup with one finger of head on a deep copper colored body. The smell is faint; mild grain and bread. I was hoping for a little more. The taste is nice with barnyard sweetness and mild lemon bitterness. The texture is smooth with low carbonation. A solid barleywine and enjoyable.

"I havenít had the base, but this seems to be barreled well. Darker brew, 9 months in Four Roses...not so long the beer is completely covered. Fruity in the nose and on the palate, malt forward, with obvious but not overbearing bourbon throughout."

Bottle. Pours clear reddish black with a small but persistent tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is bourbon, dark sugars, oak, vanilla. Flavor is mostly bourbon and wood astringency, medium sweet with not much bitterness. Fairly astringent and a bit harsh. Medium body, high carbonation levels.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma is nice with a lot of dark caramel and toffee notes. Lighter burnt sugar character and even lighter chocolate and roast. Moderate raisin, fig and prune notes with a light nuttiness - walnut and hazelnut. Light alcohol spice. Pours a dark, burnt amber with some ruby and brown hues and a moderately sized, fairly thick, dark tan head that exhibits decent retention. Light lacing and medium sized legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with a lot of dark caramel and toffee much like the aroma. Quite a bit of raisin, fig and prune flavors with a balanced nuttiness as well. Faint chocolate and roast notes. A bit of toasted bread. Medium bitterness, slightly harsh in the finish with a light woodsy, grassy hop character. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but noticeable astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but nothing amazing either. I like the aroma more than the flavor, but itís still not the balance I am looking for with to many dried fruit esters.

12oz in mug. Deep amber with uncannily lasting ecru foam. Aromas are old figgy fruity dessert and antique furniture shavings. Vanilla powers through as the sharpest component to behold, and the beer suffers not a bit for it. A touch more carbonation or bitterness would help, to be honest.

12 oz bottle from City Beer San Francisco. Pours a clear brown color with a medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, dark fruit, bourbon, vanilla, alcohol burn, light bitterness to the finish, a bit thin on the mouthfeel for an 10.7 % barley wine.

Appearance: deep copper color with thin beige head Aroma: big butterscotch nose with definite bourbon notes Taste: Sweet malt with caramel brown sugar and dark fruit with the alcohol well masked Overall: Though not terribly unique if you are fan of big buttery butterscotch bourbon flavor youíll like this

Caramelized sugar nuttiness, with big bourbon base to the aroma. Nice rich brown color with lasting head. Big rich sweetness enhanced by a soft bourbon back bone. Leaves mouth with light pleasant bourbon bite aftertaste. Delicious!

On tap at Mikkeller Bar. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head and a fruit and alcohol aroma. There is a full-bodied dark malt flavor with a nice alcohol trail. Very tasty.
